Iolanda: The spirit of Texas is multicultural and multilingual. It casts a much broader shadow than Texas itself. You sound like a neat person. Corinne: So sorry to hear about your loss. Know that my prayers accompany this post and hope you find peace as you deal with your grief. I believe that when the brain can no longer project the thought processes, they reside with the spirit which is always connected with God anyway. Carrie: I can see that you and I could have some very interesting discussions. Ozona is a town of about 2500 great people but I can't seem to engage a soul in anything but the price of cattle, oil, gas or when it's gonna rain next. I believe God is life and love and we are always connected. I think some of us are just stronger 'droplets' than others in the ocean of the life force (or something like that). I really haven't got it all figured out yet but I sure a-workin' at it. Thanks to all three of you... ~<><

I have re-read your bio, Jim, and I like the spirit that you are and the spirit that you share. Who are we....?? That is the big question, and what I read in your own bio...tells me who you are. You are more than a hard worker, poet, husband, father, grandfather...it tells me of what is important in your life. And that alone, tells a me a multitude of things about you. So in other words...I believe that who we are, consists of what we value, what is important to us as people...not our outer appearance, the shell of our body, but our spirit, soul...the part that does not die...the mark we leave behind, can be either positive or negative, perhaps these things live on in memory alone...but spirits do live on. Great blog for discussion!! ~ Carrie

My mother passed away yesterday. Her death put me in mind of my father's, when he died 7 years earlier. He suffered from Alzheimers. His memory slowly destroyed - I saw more and more of him disappearing each time I was with him. Not just memories, but facets of personality were twisted, then tossed away. Are memories the person? Is the brain the person? Still, there seemed to be a very small vestige of "him" even at the end.

Hi Jim. I like your biography. We just drove through Texas in July (for the first time) but did not have too much time to feel its spirit. I love horses although I am a city "girl". Who am I? I'm freedom, love, morality, nature, kindness, elegance...ageless. Iolanda
