A POEM I NEED TO SHARE WITH YOU

Blog Posted:11/18/2018 5:26:00 PM

Dear Soup Friends

I should begin by saying I am sorry that I have been away so long, and I know  that I've been negligent in checking in to see what my wonderful Soup family has been up to.  It was time to take a bit of a break, after all these years.

But today,  I come to share what has happened within the past 10 days to a community that is not far from my home. I'm sure by now, most of you have been hearing about the California fires. The worst in California history.  Near me, is (was) the small town of Paradise, a lovely, pine-surrounded community in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada's,  home for people just like you and me.  The area is located within an hour's drive from my home, and a place where one would take a picnic, stroll an old covered bridge, and spend a lovely spring/summer afternoon..  On the morning of November 8th, we woke to a clear autumn day, but the wind was blowing fiercely..  When first hearing our local news  of fire, we were concerned, but had no idea what would be in store for the place we had visited so often.

Since then, the news reports have been more and more heart-breaking, with a whole town destroyed and the death-toll climbing.  Fires are still burning, 14,000 homes are gone, 300 business, and worst of all,  last night's death toll was 88, and climbing, and hundreds of people are still missing.  Everyone I know is pictching in to help......each in their own way.  The heroes that have been born from this tragedy were and are, countless, and although I haven't met most of them, they are neighbors of mine.   Please hold them in your hearts.  Here is a link to a poem, (not my own), but written by someone who lost their "Paradise"   It is worthy of your time

The poem is so tragic and heartbreaking. I pray for everyone who has been touched by the devasting fire. I do hope that the wet weather of late has doused the fires. I don't have cable anymore, and so I don't get all the information. God Bless you and your family, Carrie. Stay safe. Love and hugs, Catie

Thank you for the love and the hugs, Catie. I am thankful for so much,...my own home and family are safe. But prayers will be needed for a long while for those who have lost everything. Especially those who have lost loved ones. Many who will never be found. A blessed holiday season to you Catie . Hugs back to you

What an incredible piece Carrie: It reminds us that a fire can take away much more than the material things it consumes but it destroys precious memories. Thanks for sharing with us. My thoughts and prayers go out to all these people. Words cannot convey but this poem doeas real good job of trying to. Hugs SuZ

Oh, this is so sad, Carrie, and we have seen the horrible destruction on the news channels. The loss is difficult to comprehend, and the heart-wrenching poem your link takes us to paints the tragedy so well. Thanks for sharing this with us, and our prayers are offered for all caught in this horrible disaster. Hugs, Sandra

Prayers are a comfort Sandra, and yes, the loss is still surreal to those of us who live next door to such tragedy. But knowing how much people care, even though some live very far away, is such a comfort. Thank you for caring. God Bless

Thank you dear Nette, for your care and prayers. We have heard that rain is in our forecast, due sometime tomorrow, and we are so thankful for that good news. The downside, is that there are many who fled their homes are still without shelter, camping outdoors, until Fed or government aid can find enough housing for all the families. Rain is a blessing, but also will be a hardship to those who have endured so much. Prayers are indeed needed. And the amazing love and kindness of our surrounding community has been an inspiration I will never forget.Thank you for yours <3

Thanks for sharing, Carrie. One can not even begin to imagine the pain of such loss....a place, a home, a life. May God comfort souls and help in the healing process. Yes, California has been on my mind of late. I have family there, and though I'm thankful they were unscathed, I feel for those who bear the loss of dreams and loved ones. Bless you for sharing.

Oh my, that is such a sad thing. Unimaginable how they must be feeling. The prose you showed us was excellent. Someone else here at Soup wrote a poem with similar theme. Maybe it was Gregory. That one was very good too. Always a pleasure seeing you here and I hope your home will remain safe.

Our hearts and prayers go out to those in Paradise Carrie....thank you for bringing this forward. I'm an old firefighter from Texas and I understand the sacrifices and suffering. It humbles me how people become so selfless during incidents such as these. mm

Thank you very much Mark, and fire-fighters are heroes that save lives every day. So many stories we never hear about. Thank you for your part!
Date: 11/18/2018 6:32:00 PM
You, yours and this entire situation are in my prayers, have been since I heard this on the news and now it has a personal element to lend to those prayers. Good people are quiet, good people help, they fight fires of all kinds - it is the dysfunctional of stinking thinking that continue their noise, even while beauty burns. Stay smart and know the universe is carrying healing love your way. CayCay
