+ Creator of the footle & hiku (definition -as below)

*FOOTLE (singular)* is,a two line lines,2 syllable verse with an integral title-Light Poetic verse form, witty, pertinent, topical etc (technically a trochaic monometer and not necessarily in rhyme).

+'hikuexplained -I use hiku for the English language free verse thereof to distinguish from translations of the cultural Japanese haiku.

HAIKU is a centuries old Japanese traditional phonetical & cultural poetic form whereas HIKU is a relatively recently reference to the 75year old established ' haiku in English.'

Hiku being an imagist tristich like its elder cousin, without a title, and with a similar economy of words ,inherently enigmatic & with a caesura or an ellipsis and surprise ending. A similar sense of pause the aesthetic insight flowing from perception gained from 'one breath length ' composition that flowed from the Japanesese 17 onji sound inherent in the Japaneses haiku.

Without of the ' invented' syllabic( 5-7-5 ) line restrictions of the ' haiku in english '  the hiku is the 'free verse' version of the 'invented''5/7/5 haiku in English. ..similar but different ,a present tense poetic in another language - hiku is the written or recited equivalent to arts 'gestural spontaneous happening' . A verse freed from strict syllabic constraint within its triplicity of format& is inherently enigmatic & often with a caesura and surprise ending( VERSUM )to give a 'turning' to the line.

The hiku maybe a horizontal single* line,(often broken line at the caesura),a vertical line(usually a painting(haiga) ,a couplet** or a tristich* with shape-like variations.

Plus * OPEN(organic) FORM VERSE using spaces&breaks without grammatical symbols ,the ' open' relies upon 'the one breath limitation' & so inherently requires the 'reader' (reciter) to input and responds thus making this enigmatic form a two way interplay & interpretatIon unique to the moment& changing according to mood is inherently variable.

I LIKE POETRY SOUP comment if you do

Blog Posted:2/16/2017 4:35:00 AM

This year is my tenth anniversary here on SOUP , as I'm still here you can tell I will always give it a 'like '.But what is it that has kept me such a long lasting fan.Well first and foremost I have made many constant poetry ' net friends'. Friendships that have survived the ups and downs that have happened here from time to time. It has been a great workshop ( like a night school class for those who remember those pre digital days) Okay we don't show up from time to time but like a good coffe shop many folk drop by to say hi.(Its that kind of place)

In my decade of membership I've found  PS management care and listen, they are open to new ideas and have moved with the changing times. The advertising is discreet and not in the face of the user and suits PS brand image in the poetry digital world.

I use the site as a receptacle  to store my anthology, a kind of poetry autobiography of my development as a poet.

The only downside since I joined is in my early days PS ran  regular prize base contest (as I won one it was a great encouragement to me) but I guess it was a part of the development and promotion  of the site and probably was quite time consuming and having sponsored 265 contests I know  it can be difficult to retain one's freshness and enthusiasm for poetry without a break )Also I miss the personal stats that were part of member area, but that just me and the numbers here probably make it impractical from a storage aspect

If you agree with my thoughts give this blog a 'like'  with a comment or two

Hi Brian, Congrats on your 10th anniversary! Thanks also for opening this subject. As a relative newcomer, it is very interesting to read others' opinions. This community has inspired me. I never dreamed that writing would become such an important part of who I am when I retired. Having a place where I can share and see what others are writing is invaluable. Thanks to each and every one of you for your contributions!

Firstly Congrats..on yr soup anniversary...I do like your poetry..and love poetrysoup too..It is the first site of poetry I joined...Since then I surfed other sites everynow and then, but here remains my favourite site. Its the great work that Tps do,and the kind of people that are here. There is something spiritual about it..Like a deep connection. I love the sense of community, the sense of family, with the crazy uncle ,the angry nonna, and the sweet niece too..I love the way soup is..with its good, and its little controversial issues that occur from time to time.I do miss who stopped being here..Maybe one day, they will return...Hugs.

Give me reason to. 8 hrs. ago I reported to the site ADMIN a post that I deemed offensive-I LOVE MUSLIMS, where the writer alludes to the facts of hating UK, Christianity and a love for terrorism stating his poem is satire.I wrote vehemently that this is wrong. No response. It just like saying I LOVE JAPANESE but in my poem attack/hate BLACK. That would be pure racism even if I joke and say this is satire. I just wanted to let people know that in not all cases I would look at this site with rose colored glasses.

PS administration is good at handling these problems in my experience, Connie, but I've found it usually takes more than a few hours. Give them time to respond.

I love Poetry Soup! You could say it changed my life. I was only playing at poetry when I accidently found this site. That was in 2011 and since then I have learned so much and made some wonderful friends. I am proud to be a part of this creative group!

Happy Anniversary, Brian, my friend! Like you, I have been here a long time Not quite as long as you, but so many years, that it has become such an important part of my day. And in the beginning, no one could have been more surprised than me, to know what I was about find. Friendships that circled the globe, a love of poetry that I had never known, ...PS has opened a window to a world for which I've been always grateful. Although I've decided to ease off a little, taking a break has not been easy! I am drawn to PS like a bee to honey !! Thank you for being one of the first to encourage me in 2008 !! <3

I find that poetrysoup is like a kind of friendly gathering place, like Heathrow airport,...but then fatigue kicks in and things go awry, and it then seems hostile with division....but then again, it's like a place to come and relax, kick of ya shoes and drift away .........

The GUI of this site is excellent. It is clean & efficient. I also like the additions admin has added since I joined. Fellow poets, both friend and foe, have inspired me frequently. This is a good place to be.

I have really enjoyed my time here on soup and have made some wonderful and encouraging friends who continue to inspire me daily. I have not been here that long but I have spent many years on several other sites and I can tell you, soup is the best all around poetry site I have found. I plan on being a member here for a long time.

I joined PS at the end Feb last year after some friends had persuaded me to publish my work. I was extremely nervous as I was not sure people would like it. I really appreciate the welcome I received and the encouragement to continue writing. I do now read the work of new poets and respond positively if I like their poems. I have read so much really good and imaginative poetry here and I really do appreciate comments. One of the biggest positives for me is the dated copyright. Next month I shall renew my membership and I am thinking about a lifetime membership.

I would never have flourished as a poet without the support and encouragement from people on the site and have learned so so much in 3 years. I have seen many changes since I joined and we just have to move with the times and I like the new features with the audio and also being able to add a photo is a feature I now love ... although I was adamant at the time I'd never use it lol:-) I will remain on the site as long as the ink continues to flow:-) hugs Jan xx
