Death Overtakes You

Death Overtakes You

Death overtakes you like a summer storm.

Suddenly,
It’s upon you.

Darkness covers your world...

Fear grips you.
Consumes you.

The lightning appears.
It reveals things you did not see.
Things you forgot.

The thunder roars.
You hear things you did not hear.
Remembering…

Rain quenches;
Washing away your sorrow and pain.
Carrying away your tears.

Passing...

The sun comes out again
And everything is new,
and sweet,
and cool.
Memories…

A rainbow appears
Nestled
against the ominous backdrop of black thunderheads.

You are taken by the impact of the moment.
A life,
Such an awesome force,
And what it left behind…
The promise of you.

Some Gave All

SOME GAVE ALL

Some gave eyes, arms and legs,
all predestined by their fate.
Some gave up dreams, their youth,
and women who wouldn’t wait.
Some lost it all, some held on tight,
And some gave in to hate.

And some gave up their very lives.

Yet, all gave some.

No heroes welcome home
met their weary eyes.
No ticker tape parades,
No paper floating from the skies.
No bands playing the anthem
To welcome back these guys.

Forgotten; their heroic deeds,
By media’s own device.
Forgotten were the POW/MIA
We forgot their sacrifice.
All forgotten heroes,
These Men who’d paid the price.

And some gave up their very lives.

Yet, all gave some.
You’re not welcome here,
You can’t come in this place.
Aren’t you ashamed of yourself?
You’re such a huge disgrace.
We’re not proud of your patriotism
How dare you show your face?

Shunned by Veteran of Foreign Wars,
Their loyalty suppressed.
Criticized by family and friends,
And slandered by the press,
Abandoned by their countrymen,
True, sadly, we confess.

They stuffed away their valiant deeds;
The things that they did best.
They stuffed away their medals and uniforms
In old forgotten chests.
They stuffed away their memories and dreams,
All hidden like the rest.

Rejected, some took their own lives.

Yet, all gave some.
Years pass, decades fly
How quickly time goes by.
Young men grow old, sometimes alone
As young dreams die.
The effects of the war wear on them
And many said goodbye.

An idea conceived,
A careful, thoughtful plan,
By youthful high school students
And mentors doing all they can.
Yet, this simple act of kindness
Brought pride back to the man.

And some gave up their very lives.

Yet, all gave some.
A new day dawns
A smile is on their face.
No longer humiliation and shame,
No longer their disgrace.
Your simple act of kindness
Has insured their rightful place.

And some gave up their very lives.

Yet, all gave some.
And somewhere in death’s battlefield;
Where heroic deeds are measured.
Where sacrifice, duty and honor
their values fully treasured.
Sleep goodly men! You gave it all!
Redeemed and surely pleasured.

Fields of the Fallen

Fields of the Fallen

On a deserted, lonely hill, covered with snow,
You see row after row of crosses below.

The heroes have vanished to graves in fields,
Where valiant deeds on headstones revealed.

The crosses are covered with soft whispers of snow,
Oh, where did our brave heroes all go.

The cost of their sacrifice is lined up in rows,
And a brief prayer is all that’s left to compose.

Did you fight beside them? Did you support their cause?
Do you take a moment to consider and pause?

On the battlefield, they gave all they could,
Sacrificing their youth and precious manhood.

Honor their memory with dignity and grace,
Stop by and consider the sorrow of this place.

Cherish your freedoms, they answered the call,
Protecting your liberty, they gave you their all.

Wave our glorious flag, hold your banner with pride,
Do not forsake those brave souls who have died.

Can you not honor their memory today,
Will you not stop and take a moment to pray?

Too Fragile For This World

Too Fragile for this World

When I heard that you had left us,
I pacified myself,
saying it was for the best,
as she was too fragile for this world.

Devastated again,
I lay here in tears,
missing you,
as God's plans unfurled.

You were so fragile,
a gentle sweet soul,
always giving and loving,
always forgiving and so kind.

But you ran too fast,
we could never keep up,
going where I don't see,
and you left us behind.

When will I follow,
and be together at your side,
will you wait there for me,
will it be much longer,

So much time spent with you,
watching how you lived your life,
did I learn to love like you,
will my time with you make me stronger?

Lost in our grief and anguish,
as you left us far too soon,
we think of you often,
Yet, there is no consolation to be found.

But now we will remember,
the sweet and funny things you said,
as we gather here to celebrate and love
yet, cherished with family all around.

So we pause in thoughts and actions,
as we consider our times with you,
reliving them just one more time,
Beloved memories of precious time with you,

I trust we will remember,
when going forth each day,
that we, too, can live like you did,
in everything you'd do!

Finding You Was No Mistake

Finding You Was No Mistake...

I have finally found the one I love,
The one sent to me from up above.
The one I’ll cherish and adore,
The reason that I’m living for.

The starlight of my evening glow,
I knew it from the first hello.
The sunshine upon my daily wake,
The strength behind each breath I take.
Finding you was no mistake...

We'll stand together side by side,
Heart’s united, filled with pride.
There may be sorrow and sadness, and there may be strife,
As we journey, together, pledged as one in this life.

And, we’ll have each other to lean upon,
Ever, together, united and strong.
Both forgiving the wrongs and each misstep we make,
Renewed, repaired and restored in all heartbreak.
Finding you was no mistake...

Each day will bloom with our love for one another,
At night, we'll share our dreams and plans with each other.
We’ll smile as sweet slumber takes over our day,
Snuggled together, in loving arms, we'll stay.

And through all the years, as health and beauty doth fade,
Yet, true love, kindness, and forgiveness has not strayed.
We’ll proclaim our commitment upon each day we awake,
And celebrate our love with each breath that we take.
Finding you was no mistake...

La Muerte Te Alcanza

La muerte te alcanza
written by Maryanne Dunne
translated by Estefania Valencia

"La muerte te alcanza
La muerte te alcanza como una tormenta de verano.

De repente,
Está sobre ti.

El miedo se apodera de ti.
Te consume.

El relámpago aparece.
Revela cosas que no comprendiste,
Cosas que olvidaste…

El trueno ruge.
Escuchas cosas que no oíste.
Recordando…

La lluvia sofoca;
Arrastrando consigo tu pesar y dolor.
Llevándose tus lágrimas.

Efímero…

El sol sale una vez más
Y todo es nuevo
Y dulce,
Y genial.
Recuerdos…

Aparece un arcoíris
Situado
Alrededor del amenazante telón de nubes negras.

Eres llevado por el impacto del momento.
Una vida,
Una fuerza tan impresionante,
Y lo que quedó en el olvido…
La promesa de ti."

You Can Stop Running Now

You Can Stop Running Now

Where did you go, were you chasing him, too.
Did he call out your name, did you follow him through?

Did you catch him this time, as he ran across the street,
leaving your burdens, and your worries at his feet?

You spent your whole life hoping for another chance,
did you again run to save him, was this all perchance.

The irony of it all is too much to bear,
did you see him ahead, was he standing there?

Did you run with arms open, or was it just fate,
was it true what they say, that heaven couldn't wait?

Were you surprised as you stood at His throne,
was He there greeting you, so you weren't alone.

Your burden is lifted, no more running to be done,
your adventure has ended, a new one begun!

Rest now in the arms of Our Father, who hears,
no more sorrow for you, just joy and no tears.
