A Slient Tear

A silent tear runs down her face
As she lays within this darkened place
Her mind alone cannot forget
Her memories so clear and yet
So long ago her baby's cry
When from her womb the child did fly
Into her heart forever hers
If only for a moment, "Oh why not year's"
And now the moment she has prayed to be
Her last silent tear and her broken heart free

Oh Lord, Why Make Me Choose

Oh Lord! why make me choose
My daughter, my grandson, my heart aches to lose
Fun and laughter that’s how it starts
But so often it happens the light turns to dark
In a flash or a moment the sunshine has gone
Darkness and sadness devour the fun
Once I could soothe things or so I thought
Those moments of pain that saddened my heart
But now it just seems I’m a meddling old man
Who’s spoiling the kid, well maybe I am
And now I stand by and watch things unfurl
My stomach churning, my head in a whirl
My head says no more, keep away but I don’t know
Because of my love watching him grow
It’s the essence of life my reason to live
Seeing my kids and my grandkids living Gods one time gig.
And perhaps I am wrong I really don’t know
But what can I do, I'll love them both for evermore

My Empty Heart

My mind….is this real
My thoughts….stray to you
In my dreams….always the same
Awakening….body still aware
Senses….only wanting
Touching….can it be
Feeling….body alive
Realisation….still alone
Why did you leave…My Empty Heart

My Empty Heart

Winter Memories

Winter memories that are still so vivid and bright
Those endless days playing with your mates
Snow falling when it should do, kids shouting and screaming
"It's snowing" running out, mum's shouting "Get some warm clothes on"
Scarves, balaclavas and gloves, only your face showing
Sledging in the snow, home made by dad, the lucky ones with bought ones
And the snow was proper snow, snow that came and stayed
Snow so deep you could only see your mate's head's above it.
Snow that made you want to play, sliding down hills falling on your backsides
Soaking your clothes getting your body chilled but still totally thrilled
Digging the snow off your path with dad making snowmen, huge snowmen
Who had carrot noses and coal for eyes and mouths with an old scarf around his neck to keep him warm
No cars on the road the whole street your playground
Having snow ball fights, taking sides and ganging up, wanting to be part of the best gang
Lying in the snow rolling down hills laughing and shivering
Then the darkness comes, off home to mum, she's fussing taking your wet clothes off droping them on the floor
Towels and pyjamas hung by the roaring fire, being wrapped in the warm towel mum furiously rubbing "you'll catch your death" she's saying
Pyjamas on, drinking warm milk sat on the carpet in front of the fire
Watching TV, the Flintstones, Beverly Hillbilly's maybe Huckleberry Hound and Yogi Bear.
Then it's bedtime, going up the stairs slowly not wanting to go, mum shouting after you "I'll be up in a minute"
Kneeling at the side of the bed, saying your prayers, Our Father who art in heaven.....
"Look after my mum and dad and my sister" then silently to yourself "Please God let the snow still be here tomorrow"

Lightning

When I was young and the rain showered down
I'd watch from my bedroom enthralled with no sound
Listening to the rain it's rhythm tapping strong
Innocent as a child knowing no wrong
It softened the ground making things grow
It lightened the sky, with the nicest rainbows
Then came the thunder and the lightning would flash
Crackling the sky, into trees it would crash
From my bedroom window protected so surely
I'd watch Mother Nature unleashing her fury
As the storm passed and the blue skies shone through
The whole scene forgotten till the next storm did brew.

Living and Dying

Living and dying is why we were born
Like smiling and crying at the birth of our dawn
The innocence of children it soon disappears
As we live out our lives born of our fears
We all are so different yet all just the same
Hiding our troubles whilst playing life's games
Some cannot stand it they make their own time
Shorter than ever knowing the crime
That the people who love them will suffer the most
Wondering why they did it left only with their ghosts

Alone

What's my life about I wonder in these days
Living by myself, my family far away
No one knows my feelings, the anguish or despair
That I feel throughout the long nights with no one here to care
I can hear their voices now "self pity" hard they cry
Leave him he'll come round say the nosy one's that pry
And so it seems that I must try to help myself
For as stranger in where ere I be no friends or family dwell
Now I stand here all alone and must cast the doubts away
Whilst thinking about my loved one's as the sun brings another day

My True Love

How to express the way that I feel
A word just to tell you of my love oh so real
I love you je t'aime they mean just the same
To the person you say it so real not a game
I love you I love you and now only you
Forever my darling I'll always be true
To the one of my dreams my love for all time
No more will I forsake my heart to a crime
Our lives the will be one together always
As I treasure your beauty through the myriad of days
A love without end beyond mortal ties
Surpassing this life, please loved ones don't cry
At the end of our days when our souls start to rise
To an eternity of love and to God's final prize

An Old Man's Dream

This ache in my heart, remembered from long ago
It teases my body, It torments my soul
I was a young man back then, foolish and vain
Now as life's shadow grows longer, I can still feel that pain

I can't understand why my mind let’s me feel
Such longing for you, please God were it real
Each day my heart aches, with exquisite desire
For an old man’s last dream, as his shadow expires.

Being 63

Restricted movements
Stagnant thoughts
Blinding clarity
Though oft so short
Timeless memories
Make me smile
When I was young
Oh....so agile
My mother's words
Now pass my lips
Seem now so wise
Once I thought so glib
I wonder now
In year's to be
If my kids will recall
Their memories of me.
