R.C. Lewis Poem
I find myself praying for the strength, to take
all of your problems and make them go away;
It's those three little words, I wish I could say
“I love you”; Maybe I'm afraid to get hurt
Maybe it's something worse.
I want to be the guy you rely on, a shoulder to cry on
Wipe the tears from your eyes when you cry,
Make that smile reappear that’s as deep as the sky
They say you never know love from fake
But I'm giving you my heart, in hopes it won't break
So to the owner, Here’s the deed,
You're the only one I need.

R.C. Lewis Poem
Ratta tat tat, as he taps on his drum
The war isn’t over, it’s just begun
He’ll play that drum until the moon shines bright
He’ll play that drum till the stars come out at night
With bullets flying over head
He looks around and sees the dead
Explosions and smoke lace the air
But still he runs, and plays his drum
He wants to cry but shows no fear
Fear is something forbidden here
To prove his self among the men
Is what he dreams of again and again
With tears streaming down his cheeks
He charges faster, anger at its peak
He grabs a dead soldier’s gun and fires
To kill an enemy is his only desire
But angry like a ravaging dogs bark
Suddenly, everything goes dark
As he falls to the ground and looks over at the others,
The Little drummer boy thinks only of. . .
. . .His mother. . .
*I'm a huge history nerd and one night in high school, this poem came to mind.

R.C. Lewis Poem
He is a good friend that old Jack
He's the only one that stays around
He listens to my woes and sorrows
He stays around until I pass out
He creeps out silently when I do
He gives me peace when I am manic
He gets me manic when I am at peace
He follows me everywhere
He lingers on my breath
Its not until I finish Jack
That I get to know his brother Jim
Because Jack Daniels and Jim Beam
Are the only ones who understand me
*I do enjoy whisky but I'm not an alcoholic! lol.

R.C. Lewis Poem
I’ve come to accept the fact that I’ll never feel
The wind or sun on my skin again; these wounds won’t heal
Death creeping ever slowly around the corner
Life and Death; dreams are the dividing border
Try and make them come true; Make the sky green instead of blue
Imagine yourself as king of the world
Without dreams and aspirations, we will all die through exasperations
To make ourselves fit in instead of stand out;
If we are just wading through the pool of life
Then why have free will?

R.C. Lewis Poem
Once upon a time, I loved a princess
She had no kingdom to speak of
But even a moment of her time was priceless
Nor did she have Royal Blood
For her blood was that of a commoner
Once upon a time, I loved a princess
She was fair as can be, just look in her eyes to see
The depth of her soul, for she truly knew pain
But the scars on her heart, I hoped to wash away with the rain
She was not perfect by any means, but she was a princess to me
Once upon a time, I loved a princess
Or at least that’s what she was to me
Her wish was my command, for her love I would withstand
The rage of a thousand nations if just for a moment I could see
That love that twinkled in her eye whenever her eyes gazed
Upon a commoner like me; For I am nothing compared to my princess
Once upon a time, I killed a princess
I did not harm her body, t’was her soul that I killed
For when I left her crying, wounded in the street
I could not let our bodies touch, nor our faces meet
I left my princess bleeding in the street
Her heart was bleeding, her voice was pleading
“Please! No!” she screamed to the lonely moon
And then and there I knew that I was no knight in shining armor
I was the devil in disguise and I destroyed my princess’ kingdom
With my words full of lies
Once upon a time, I loved a princess
And once upon a time, she loved me…
*Dedicated to a time when I loved a girl who loved me more than life itself. I left her and she was never, and I feel never will be, the same again. It sill hurts me to this day to think that I caused her so much pain.

R.C. Lewis Poem
I can feel my eyelids trying to drop
They feel so heavy, practically like rocks
Sleep . . . It keeps trying to drag me in
I’d love to lie in the cool mist of darkness again
Sleep: To be in a state as of quiescence or death
Quiescent: Marked by inactivity or repose; tranquility at rest
Death: A permanent cessation of vital functions; the end of life
Life: Spiritual existence transcending physical death
Life is full of times consisting of peace, war, and emotions
Death is peaceful; we have no consciousness or notions
Sleep is a taste of death; it tears us from the seams
But if these three things are true, what are dreams?

R.C. Lewis Poem
She took my hand and kissed me;
I said, “No acting necessary,”
So we took off into the night
Nothing to guide us but the moonlight
She slapped and screamed at me;
“Did you ever love me?!”
I turned to her and responded bluntly
“No, acting was necessary,”
Tears in her eyes, mascara running
She wanted answers as I walked around humming
A tune so cheerful for the mood
A tune too cheerful for “a dude”
She called me up late last night
Tears in her eyes while the moon shown bright
“Again, did you ever love me?”
I responded, “No, acting was necessary.”
Her parents yelled and slammed at the door
They heard her scream and fall on the floor
Her dad got a hammer and banged at the knob
Her room was a mess, most like a slob
But cleanliness was a talent of hers
So why would she let her room conform?
It was the depression and sadness she couldn't stand
Her parents looked inside her hand
Her wrist was slashed, her pulse was nothing
Her death had come and gone already
Her father took what she was holding
And thought of the Boy as he was scolding
A note they found with words just scrawled
Messily written in an angry brawl
With nerves of steel but still showing worry
Her parents read on, “No, acting was necessary.”

R.C. Lewis Poem
You soothe my rage with the slightest touch
Though most look right past you, you mean so much
But now comes the time when I must let you go
It’s time for me to grow and stand on my own two feet
Though I love you, maybe someday our hearts will meet
And we’ll love again, but until that day, I’ll see you then
Reminiscing thoughts keep coming back to me
We started with such passion
No one, nothing could ration
I swear; this isn't what I wanted
But you no longer need me
I kissed her gently on the forehead
And walked slowly out of her life

R.C. Lewis Poem
People eating their daily fill
Mothers popping their daily pill
Fathers drinking their daily beer
Hunters shooting their daily deer
Rain pouring on the city
Parents looking for each other’s pity
Children playing very gaily
Tourists visiting the town of Raleigh
It’s these days that I can’t stand
These days that go by and are oh so bland
When the boredom sets in,
That’s when my head spins
The days when nothing seems to flow
The days when everyone just wants a show
People are just never satisfied
Until they are undyingly gratified

R.C. Lewis Poem
These words unspoken
A vow unbroken
I made it in silence
Kept my thoughts quiet
But the way I feel
I cannot conceal
You’re a rare gemstone in the sea
It’s you I want right next to me
Everywhere I am and everywhere I go
I care for you and love you so
When I look at you, you’re all I see
It’s you I want my life to be
You’re always so kind
And you’re always on my mind
My heart jumps, like someone pulled a lever
So if I say I love you, can I keep you forever?
*For her, and only her
