A Man and His Car

Once upon a time
In a land not so far
Lived a lead footed man
Alone with his car.

He longed to go fast
Speed flawlessly down the track
So he looked for a car
A Mustang in fact.

It was love at first sight
From bumper to bumper
He adored her sleek look
And got rid of his clunker.

The metallic silver hue
How she sparkles in the light
Those amazing blue headlamps
Just look killer at night.

The windows tinted dark
The car low to the ground
She’s sure to turn heads
While driving around.

She was built to go fast
She was built to go far
Not sit in some garage
Like an old man’s show car.

He steps on the gas
The engine begins to roar
The turbo whistles loud
As the rpms soar.

The excitement is great
His heart beats fast in his chest
Shifting through gears
This time will be his best.

He speeds by his opponent
The world goes by in a blur
To the young man
Winning is the best to occur.

He’ll be noted as great
By friends and other men
Then get back in the staging lane
To do it over again.

When the Lights Go Out

The lights go out.
I cannot see
Things that lie ahead of me.

The room is dark.
I try not to fear
Every teeny, tiny noise I hear.

I try to stay quiet.
Do not make a sound
I know the monster is somewhere around.

It might be in the closet
Or under the bed.
I’m safe with the blanket pulled over my head.

I can hear it breathing.
Even its groans
Oh, those deathly, annoying tones.

The noise pierces the air.
I wish it were pretend
I wish this live nightmare would come to an end.

The monster is close now.
I feel a hand on the sheet.
The hand of the creature I’m not ready to meet.

I let out a sharp scream
I call out for help
Praying my family will hear my loud yelp.

The bedroom door opens
The light flickers on
The fear and bad feelings soon will be gone.

The monster has left.
I can let in the calm.
I lower the blanket to smile at mom.

Flying

My feet hit the ground
But I feel like I’m flying
The wind blows through my hair
The clouds caress my skin
I close my eyes tight
To enhance this sensation
Really feel what it’s like
To be above the world
Like a star gleaming in the sky
Like a rainbow dancing over the land
I can look down at the world
Seeing everything so small
The world is less complex
With no cares to bother me
No problems I cannot handle
Up here amongst the clouds
Life seems much easier
There’s no enemies to face
No work to get in my way
I can go wherever I please
See things I thought I’d never see
Fly to the tops of mountains
Float gently over the seven seas
Take in all of this world’s wonder
The planet is beautiful from up here
Seeing what no one has ever seen
A beauty that is rare to find
I could live in the sky forever
See the world from this point of view
Until eternity runs dry
But my feet are glued to the ground
My body isn’t a weightless form
I cannot soar in the clouds
I cannot see rare beauties
That I’ve only dreamt about
I open my eyes
The world is still beautiful
A little more complex and loud
The beauty still remains
With my feet firmly on the ground
I’ll walk to the places I long to see.

When I Look In Your Eyes

When I look in your eyes,
I feel my world changing around me.
The ground begins shaking at my feet.
Buildings crash all around us.
The sky fades to a purplish-black.
Animals run for cover,
Taking with them all they have.

When I look in your eyes,
A new feeling takes over my soul.
My heart beats faster.
My breathing quickens,
My hands shake uncontrollably.
I can't feel my legs beneath me.
Yet, still I stand before you.

When I look in your eyes,
I long to know what this feeling is.
This new creation my mind has made me.
I need to know what my heart is feeling,
Why this madness has begun.
You say you have an answer for me,
And you say that answer is love.

Zombies

I see them coming
Their mangled stroll.
Their eyes so black
Revealing no soul.

I hear their groans
It burns my ears.
We cannot stop them
After all these years.

Just one bite
From this wretched beast,
Your life will be over
Humans will be your feast.

Their numbers are great
While ours are small.
Still we take them,
And we take them all.

I raise my gun
And aim it high.
I pull my trigger
And let the black blood fly.

Others join in
The guns echo loud.
It is the only option
On escaping this crowd.

More shall come
We expect no less.
The zombies’ horde
Will be a deadly mess.

Forever With You

As I stood there thinking,
Quietly by the door,
I could not help but realize,
We will go on forever more.

I know we’ve said it many times,
But now it seems so true.
And I know it means forever,
Every time I look at you.

I see the look upon your face,
Your smile that always cares,
It makes me want to scream and shout,
About the love we share.

Forever can be such a long time,
Till we make it to the end.
But as long as I remain with you,
We can make it last till then.

Nightmares

They follow you
Like bats in the night
You can’t outrun them
You can never hide
They’ll be there waiting
Always waiting
For you to fall asleep
For your mind to finally be theirs
You can fight it all you want
Force your eyes to never close
Soon you’ll give in
And they’ll be there
They’ll play with you
Showing what you never want to see
Saying what you never want to hear
Until you beg for it to stop
Pleading for it all to be over
But your mind does not listen
Your eyes do not open
They cannot hear your cries
And you’re forced to see the images
So gruesome and bizarre
Your feet try to carry you away
Try taking you from the nightmares
But they follow you
They’ll always follow you.

For Dad

He has been gone for nine long years,
I’ll never forget his face,
Or the times we shared together,
At his favorite place.

We had great laughs through the times,
And also some sad cries,
But to think that all of that is gone,
Has got me full of sighs.

I’ll never forget the things he’s said,
Like how to drive a car,
And what is right and what is wrong,
And never go too far.

I only wish I could see him once more,
But that has long since failed,
For I know the seas of life,
Can never again be sailed.

I know it’s hard to say goodbye
But the time is almost here.
I hope dad knows I’ll never forget,
Every wonderful year.

Running

Trying to escape my past
The things that I have done
The things that I haven’t
The people that I’ve hurt
Just to get where I am
I’ll try to escape my fears
Fears of losing everything
Fears of dying or losing control
Fears that keep me running everyday
I don’t know how far I’ll go
To escape all that I hate
To free myself of every
Bad dream and hurtful memory
I’ll just keep running
Until I can no more
Face the days of ruining myself
And the people that I love
Those people that will never know
The secrets I keep inside
The secrets that eat away
All the memories I hold dear
And yet I still keep running
From everything and everyone
Still I’ll never outrun my past
My secrets or my fears
As far as I may go
Wherever this land will take me
I’ll always and forever
Just keep running.

Here's To the Flu

Here’s to the stomach bug, virus, and cold
Oh how your symptoms and side effects get old.

I hate feeling achy, tired, and sore.
I hate feeling pukey, which sucks even more.

You made me miss a day’s worth of work.
Especially the pay, the most important perk.

I hope that tonight you’ll grant me some rest,
So I’ll wake up tomorrow feeling my best.
