Write Me a Poem

A poem without a topic
That’s an easy thing to do
You’re a writer aren’t you - she said
As if to tame the shrew

The rhyming is just reflex
I’m nervous now you see
Maybe you’ll see through the words
Maybe, you’ll see me.

Missing You

I miss your smile, the curl of your lips
Your eyes so soft and wide
The words, those delicious words
The harmony of your heart and soul

Shaking your head with nonchalance
Every taste, every smell, every texture
Just once more to hold you
To feel myself falling through you

I only miss you when I’m awake
When I dream, we are together

She Whispers to Me

She calls my name.

Trembling, unsure I try to touch her.

My hands upon her as she tells my song.

But she resists.

I ball up my heart and hands.

Listen to me she says.

This is not about you, it is about us.

Don’t touch me, join me.

Relaxing I feel with my heart, not my hands.

And then it comes from both of us.

We roll together in rhythm.

Not too fast she reminds me.

Sweetly, softly, dolce, piano

By the Fire

Waiting for your words.

Searching for similarities.

Sameness, connection.

Feeling it unfold inside me, welcoming it.

Warmed by the heat of your fire.

Trading secrets, laughing.

A gentle hand, and then another, and another.

Feint breath on skin, the whispered caress of lips.

Eyes, mouth, neck, curves, eyes again.

Together, like we had never been apart.

Wanting never to be again.

Beauty

Two of my most cherished beauties
I have loved them both
In ways that defy words, penned or spoken
Lightened by them
Holding me in their hearts

Despite our distance
Physical or that which we create
It never stops flowing
There whenever it is needed
Knowing when it is most

Like a song inside our heads
Slow dancing barefoot
Leading, forgetting, being led
So natural and effortless
Just like us

Next Time

I will not be a bother
I will not be - too much
You are clearing time for me
You are wanting of my touch

You’re always glad to see me
Messages are not a pain
It’s not at all confusing
You do not feel ashamed

You would love to see me
You’d love to hear my voice
I’m not a reckless accident
A wanted, needed choice.

I’m waiting for you quietly
I feel that you are near
Let's walk gently and slowly
There’s nothing left to fear

The Fire of our Hearts

Feeling better aren’t we,
the extra voice grows quieter.

Do not diminish your pain,
it comes to teach you.

Lessons forged in the fire of our hearts
Making us stronger for those who deserve us.

Stay strong little Sister

Future

You are so very far away my dear
Is that what makes this so special
How can you know me so well, so soon
Across lines of time and undersea

I want you and this
I want your mind, your body
Everything in between
You make me feel so good

Transitioning from liminal space
Building something new, safe and warm
Filled with care and consideration
Generous, reciprocal, valued

Party

Alone in a crowded room
Encased in a bubble
They move around me
Like water, past a stone.

An overlap of traits
Each pleasant in isolation
Compounded and compressed
Into dark stillness

Practiced movements
A very convincing smile
An anecdote of sport
Try not to drink too much

The merry ritual
For everyone but me

Read Slowly

You skim the lines,
Scanning for significant words
These are not text messages
They are the lines on my face
The creases of my hands
They cannot be rushed

Did you come here for a quick fix
You race through like an airport
Glancing up at the departure board
A quick look then gone again
This sacred space, this Louvre of hearts

Walk quietly through this gallery
Read it slowly, read it twice, read it.
