I pick a crumpled page,
from a basket of memories,
tucked in the corner of my old house,
they remind me of my bygone years,
sketched in crayons and rainbow colours!
a purple river with a yellow boat,
a green duck and a red rose,
stick like figures of mum and dad,
with me and sister in gleeful pose!
a park bench where we all sat,
singing along with tuneful carols,
wearing warm woolies that mother knit,
basking in the glow called family love!
many such papers I did pick,
uncurled them to get a good peek,
memories lost to time’s wither,
smudged in colours but fresh in mind!
snow white evenings and little chats,
playful quarrels and fancy dress!
school friends and all my teachers,
and kind Miss Evers who served us food!
my furrowed brow and wizened face,
reflect on those glorious days,
memories saved is all I have,
but folks I lost, for them I crave!

To those who harrass; the yobos we call bullies
I'd gladly string you up by the seat of your woolies
Then from a barn rafter
You would hear my laughter
While swinging overhead from ropes and pulleys
I'd stuff each of your big mouths with a dirty sock
It's such a fitting punishment for you who mock
Twenty lashes at dawn
For you are Satan's spawn
More beatings if you crawl out from under your rock
You should be ashamed when you taunt and heckle
You have far less worth than a penny or sheckle
Your bite has no power
To injure or devour
You're nothing more than a blemish or a freckle
On billboards I'd paper your names for all to see
I'm pretty sure lots of PS poets would agree
Who'd swat you like gnats
And use you like doormats
Because your attitude is loathesome and beastly
*yobo is a synonym for a bully

Spring Is Sprung
The daffies are ready to give us their best
The early spring sun gifting newfound zest
The chaffinch, the blue tit, the robin redbreast
Flit hither thither, all planning to nest
Skys, winter grey, hint at forthcoming blue
New shoots appearing where last year they grew
And soon there'll be blossom in many a hue
And frost will succumb to victorious dew
Folk in their Woolies mow gardens where grassed
And in the marina they’re raising a mast
All that was dormant emerges at last
Now that the worst of the winter has passed

Winter has arrived with a freaking cold blast
Could have been warned it's sure a jolt to our ass
Wearing shorts and a tank top
Woolies and tuques we now swap
The top models for style and eloquence I surpass

Alright, okay, enough is enough
It's supposed to be warm, what's with this stuff
Still wearing woolies
Protecting my goodies
Without 'em, icicles would be dangling from my butt

The time has come for me to say goodbye forever
I am not brilliant at expressing my emotions
But in the words of ‘Sealion Dion’ ….
‘I will always love you’
If you check in the filing cabinet
You will find my portfolio of shares
I have kept the Woolworth's certificate it may be valuable
They may resurface one day ….
That’s the wonder of Woolies!
If you ever need a new sofa…. don’t forget these immortal words
