The Animal In Me

I would say I work like a dog
But for what it would make my ma
And my reactions may be cat like
But I've never licked my Pa!

I might like to monkey around
But bananas are not my jam
It's true I am wise as an owl
Proved literal by an exam!

I have been called an animal
But she showed a smile at the time
Given a nickel each instance
In truth it would be just a dime!

My Life In Metaphor

In a time of matters I reflect,
Being forever perspicacious;
Wrong decisions, false steps,
Leading to become fallacious.

In need of caution or I will fall foul,
To be specifically as wise as an owl.

Walking on the edge of normality,
Having doubtful thoughts ahead;
An inclination to sidestep formality,
Often times hanging by a thread.

This is my life and where it abodes,
Feeling my choices are crossroads.

Rash decisions taken with consequences,
The mind and the heart in hopelessness;
Too late to repair the damage contributed,
Leaving me breathing within emptiness.

In this situation I become smirch,
Conducive to a drunkard’s search.

In a time of end matters I reflect,
For my regrets are great and pitiful;
Should I cry over spilled milk?
After which I shall become guileful.

When finally I become trounced,
I become a dead cat that bounced

To be as wise as an owl is actually absurd
because the owl is one of the least intelligent birds.
It's also the skunk's only successful predator as well
because the owl doesn't have a sense of smell.

Hackneyed

She’s as pretty as a picture
And as quiet as a mouse.
He’s as blind as a bat
And as fat as a house.

She’s as stubborn as a mule
And as sly as a fox.
He’s as wise as an owl
And as strong as an ox.

She’s as skinny as a toothpick
And as slow as a snail.
He’s as sharp as a tack
And as large as a whale.

I could keep this up forever
But you know what they say:
Nothing ruins someone’s writing
Like an overused cliché!
