Heat, in the shade, with a drink and a parade - of graduates, blue and gold. An army sent out to take on the world. Proud. Politics takes over as the principal wields the pulpit. The valedictorian - smart and charming.
In the P.M., as the sun slowly dips, clouds cosset the next batch. Less formal and a smaller set of graduates, dressed in black and gold. At first glance less attractive in comparison to the morning glow. But this student body has heart.
The salutatorian blesses God, as her speech ends. The valedictorian tells us (them) to drive kind whether we walk or are masked in our cars. And the principal is student-centered. Oh what a wonderful man to have in charge.
Puffed chest. Proud of both graduates. Whether an individual in glorious and flowery fold or the everyday crowd, may God bless their souls. May they use all the intelligence, wisdom, charm and grace to bless the human race.
O my soul. My heart beats.

The wicked witch of the West
Wanted to be a model on the cover of the
Cosmopolitan.
Her green complexion made her a woman
Of extreme interest.
She should of fired her dress designer who
Manifest
Her as a harridan.
The wicked witch of the West
Filled out the paper work to enter the modeling
Contest.
People were surprised when they found out
She had been her classes valedictorian
Her green complexion made her a woman
Of extreme interest.
The Judges found her some one who was
Willing to invest
Time and money to help her as she began.
The wicked witch of the West
Was also on a quest
To find her superman
Her green complexion made her a woman
Of extreme interest.

We are all PRONE to this or that.
See now how I am prone to ROSE POEMS.
Some folks in LIFE are prone to the
AUDACIOUS mannerisms, without
Regard. Stilling themselves at the heart
Of friction. Witrhin the cogs of TIMES
Through out life.
Seasonal spittle of rain upon a fig tree
In this seasonal cold STORMY BLACK
OF NIGHT. One season then another
Gradually dragging LISTLESSLY.
UNbelievable you forced me to face the truth.
We both knew it was no use.
You STRUCK my heart and.....
It's been YEARS
I'VE BEEN HERE
You've been there and.....
I was to tired to read the
Writing on the wall.
Across the board, be VALIANT
It's Your chore.
Valedictorian of the WORLD.
Speed the course.
Gain the PEARL.
Do not GALLIVANT HAPHAZARDLY.
FEEL and keep your DESTINY
WITHIN sight.

Valentine! Oh Valentine!
I search for you in the vile valley.
Vultures wing low, brushing dark clouds.
Life snaps, mowed down at dawn.
Blood courses, cakes in the streets,
Wafting stench of death and decay.
Consciences are crusted by ceaseless
Strife that howls dirges over the air.
The world is agog, celebrating love;
Yet no graduation, no valedictorian
In the school of Valentine!

Her calender was packed
She had so much to do
Had been valedictorian
Damn proud of it, too.
The world was her oyster
Grabbed the bull by the horns
Her drive and her intellect
Brought her accolades galore.
I met her post haste
She was school principal then
My son was a student
In her office...once again!
She told me her schedule
How she ran marathons
Her lists to achieve
Were impressive and long.
I met her one day
Said, "Come sit for awhile."
But she just couldn't stop
Had to run, in denial.
Today I sat down
To read yesterday's news
Saw she died on a treadmill
She was just 42.

I’m sorry I’m not who you think I am.
I’m no valedictorian;
I’m just mere spam,
Only there to be of annoyance.
I’m sorry I don’t do what is expected.
I don’t always think things through,
I often need to be corrected,
Whether through scolding or consequences.
I’m sorry I’m not the daughter you desired,
Well-behaved, top grades, and always obedient.
But I am who I am, always inspired
To be creative and innovative.
I realize now being sorry isn’t right.
It’s who I am, not something that can be changed.
Instead of schoolwork, I like to write.
Nothing I try can change that.
You may not approve of what I do,
But I am still your daughter,
Through and through.
Accept me for me.

Oh, I can’t believe who I now see.
Is that really you my dear Stephanie?
You have changed so much in such a short time.
Right now, you appear absolutely sublime!
Remember that jerk in our high school homeroom?
He was the one who always called you “Boom-Boom”.
He kept saying you were a fat and ugly cow.
Wait until he sees what you are looking like now.
You sacrificed those calories, and you look great.
He does not know that you are married and lost weight.
Well, he won’t be seeing you on this occasion.
He committed crimes and was sentenced to prison.
So Lisa, you went off to go to college.
You were always one for gaining knowledge.
It is so nice to see you again.
Everyone remembers the class valedictorian.
Have you met anyone interesting as of late?
I remember when you went out with that blind date.
He left you at that movie, that conniving rat.
Don’t worry Lisa. You can do better than that.

MY BIG BROTHER JOE
Joe I’ve never been up to your standards, no potential as they say
Oh I went to university, all right, but didn’t get honours
Then started a small business but it was no great shakes
I went to teach in Africa but achieved no spectacular success
Married a girl I wanted, just kinda ordinary, no great beauty,
Got three kids, messy and costly; you stayed single, wise choice.
Always kinda idolized you, Joe, always talking about you, you know.
I’m a loser Joe, not like you. You would’ve been great with any choice.
You married a real beauty, she didn’t deserve you, so you split up
You could’ve been anything, but you rightly didn’t want to choose wrong
Man, you were wise - too many choices and anyone can easily make a slip
I'm sure you would’ve been valedictorian in the university,
It's obvious you could’ve gone much further in business than me
And Africa would’ve been a cakewalk with your knowledge and skills.
When the guys from the old street get together, all we talk about
Is you and how cool you were, and what you did and said,
And how one day you’d be famous for something needing your potential.

May all our dreams forever stay
Sparkling in our minds
We won’t lose sight of what we want today
Our school work is finished, we’ve written our last essay
Perfected, is how we are defined
May all our dreams forever stay
Today, we stand as one, beating all cliché
A clique like us, impossible to confine
We won’t lose sight of what we want today
When bewildered, we are not, afraid to kneel and pray
Even in our youth, sometimes we must unwind
May all our dreams forever stay
Although we know not, what awaits us at bay
Keep parading forward, ‘cause now there’s no rewind
We won’t lose sight of what we want today
We did it guys! Look at us in our array
Success ahead and behind
All our dreams will forever stay,
We won’t lose sight of what we want today!

The fear of Public Speaking has been with me always
but never like it was on that June evening so many years ago.
I still get gut wrenching panic when I think about that time,
it really seems like only yesterday....
A late bloomer, extremely shy, it was a horror to be
selected as Valedictorian of my high school class. For weeks
I had trouble sleeping and could barely eat. I knew
disaster was close at hand..
.
The day of graduation I prayed for a quick death, thought
seriously of faking a terminal illness, and cried all afternoon.
And you know what? It was just a bad as I thought it
would be.....
My throat closed, I whispered and croaked and didn't say
one coherent thing. Dead silence. Then clapping,
led by my frantic parents. No one ever mentioned the debacle..
but at our ten year reunion I was nominated as the girl
who had changed the most. Oh, that little victory was sweet.
but, dear God, I still remember......
For John Heck's contest..

Arnie's been on my mind all week
Our class valedictorian
His cancer discovered too late
Little time now lays before him
He asked to see friends one more time
This meek request heard nationwide
From North, South and West all will fly
So many flocking to his side
Treating us all as his equals
A genius graced our high school halls
And when a tutor was needed
Arnie always answered the calls
His intellect was much admired
But it was his humility
Added to his warm, welcome smile
That gave him popularity
And as we gather together
From lives that have drawn us apart
We thank the Lord for knowing him
He is our high school's King of Hearts
Friends, I am flying to NJ this week to join at least 30 other classmates who can't wait to see
our dear valedictorian again. He is a loving husband and father and I hope you will say
prayers for him and his family.

Her Hidden Beauty
She was such a lonely child but not by choice,
She had no reason to smile, no reason to rejoice.
She would stutter when she talked, and the other children would laugh,
Seemed none of the other children would stand up for her on her behalf.
She dreaded each day that she went to school,
The kids never stopped their teasing, life was so cruel.
But she never quit, though the going was tough,
She just wished somebody would tell the other kids enough was enough.
But her beauty was such that it out shined the problem she had.
God always gives you something good along with the bad.
And she would always pray, not for a cure,
But to give her strength, so she could endure.
All through the years she maintained grades of straight A’s,
And now it was time for graduation in a few short days.
As Valedictorian a speech was required,
And a beauty she was, one which God had inspired.
As she stood before the crowd, with her speech in her hand,
She started to read with a voice so beautiful and in perfect command.
Not one hesitation, a masterpiece she spoke that day,
And her final words were “I Love You All and That is all I have to say!
