Lady In Waiting
David J Walker

A woman of common hope
Stuttered through stolen and broken
                 Scripture
An illustrator
 of common complaint
More common in nuance of
                 Failed restraint
In the vaguest of hues
                 Of Aqua and blues

Her mother cried over her brother
Her mother lied concerning her father
Her mother died alone in aniline leather
A practiced Lady in Waiting

My Face, My Book

Count the wrinkles, count the lines
Each one owns their place in time,
Around my mouth see my smiles
Measure them, I hope there's miles.

On my forehead see my frowns
Embedded there when times were down,
Beneath my eyes you see the bags
I'm at an age when some things sag.

When I look at my reflection
I have the vaguest recollection,
That once my skin was taut and smooth
Yet here it is, carved with grooves.

Each of those though duly earned
Through happy times or lessons learned,
So if you know how to look
Read my face... it is my book.

Snake Oil

I heard all the anecdotes on antidotes
but I wanted my therapy done chemically
so much that, in an approximation of intoxication
my judgments blurred uncertainties with a whispered ‘allegedly’

spectacular vernacular, jailed - minus crime or credibility
capital cliches of an amateur poet, inevitably
a teenagers growing phases annotated in the vaguest of chosen but stolen phrases
regurgitated words and statements

the morbidity of authenticity that is lexicon-artistry

Termination

Five letters to cover a million,
A nonchalant approach to spilled ink on a page,
A casual glance at the sky to depict rain,
When standing in the eye of a hurricane,
Fear not little bird you're still safe in your cage,
Your cost of admission covered with gold bouillons,
One enclosed hour to decipher the meaning,
Behind liquid metaphors and technicolor lead,
All candidly exchanging inside jokes and dance techniques,
For their next session of flying off the page,
Wondering what else it will take to get inside their head,
Depictions of knights prevailing in the darkest of nights or tales of lovers dreading the coming morning,
If you seek answers you will only find questions,
If you desire critique you will only find correction,
All should be left to the sanctity of mystery,
To the vaguest representations of the birds and the bees,
And if you manage to compile chests of black gold treasure it,
For a magician never reveals his secrets.

Time

"Time"
by: Eric L. Boddie

Tomorrow, it never comes
For it is always today
But the future will be realized
For it lives in each and every Pre-K

Only the now is forever
Yet no one knows how long the now will last
Because my most recent thought
Is the newest entry in the Book of Eric's Past

Because the life expectancy of the present
Is so much less than the duration of a single breath
Because by the time I am ready to exhale
Who knows how many instances have left

For a true concept of time
Is, perhaps, the vaguest mystery
Because within the blink of an eye
The future becomes history

And that is not meant to confuse
Or to cloud anyone's perception
But we all need to understand
That death begins at the moment of conception

And unless there is a rebirth
Life has no meaning within itself
Because only in the soul
Can a man truly acquire wealth

And wealth is derived from the Word
And the Word came from above
And time will never die
But it can be conquered by Love

And Love is the Word
You have to take It for what It's worth
And if you don't know It's value
Look in the Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth

Fait Accompli

Today I watched a video
Set to music
It was faithless stuff
Reminding me
Of the creatures in virtual reality
Trying to discern how to navigate
Through their maze of
Confused white lights
And misdirection
Upheld by a puff of air
With only the vaguest notion
Of some reward to strive for --

And I realize how the
Signals the maze gave off threw you
And led you down exactly the path
Upon which you meandered
Lost and alone.

Still you tried glancing back once or twice
Lingering with hope for salvation
But eventually you stopped
Looking back
(Salts sting)
Resolved

You forged ahead
And the labyrinth that had been built
Frustrating at each turn
Tripped you up a few more times
Until you finally
Found your way out.

It wasn't easy to
Let you go
Without so much as a whimper
Bearing witness to
This experiment
Staying put
Soundless
This void overwhelming
Even though the whole time
I was screaming "no!"
If only silently
In my own mind...
And of course you couldn't read my mind
And of course it didn't go our way
And off course
And off --

And on yet we go.

You-

I'm walking blindly along a path
With only the vaguest sense
Of everything

I dont know
Where I'm going
Or who I'm with
What I'm doing
Or where I've been

All I know
&
All I don't

Is You

The Dream

As morning dawns upon the bight,
And illuminates the sea,
Awake, awake to dawns first light.

A haze upon the head alight,
Clouding out all memory,
As light of day overcame the night.

Impossible it is to write
All that the mind did see,
When you awake to dawns first light.

The vaguest sense that all was right
In those last moments of lethargy,
As light of day overcame the night.

When all seemed lost in evil plight,
Or drowned in heavenly ecstasy,
As you awake to dawns first light.

The pieces of the puzzle briefly unite,
Then are scattered off spontaneously,
As light of day overcomes the night.
Awake, awake to dawns first light.

Premium MemberWorst Morning After

Not ever having gotten drunk before,
I drank tequila; then I drank some more.

The night got shorter. Wasted, then I saw
A tall dark cowboy stride into the bar.

The drinks kept flowing as he hit on me,
And now I have this vaguest memory. . .

I got up on the counter in high heels.
I think I’ve learned how Jimmy Buffet feels!

I think I did the can-can till I fell.
Both head and tail of mine now feel like hell.

And though I’m used to waking up with dread,
No dread compares to what lies in my bed!!

A smelly guy who now I have discovered
must use false teeth, for here they sit uncovered!

Worst morning after; now I’m feeling ill.
Where can I find a morning after pill?

(Hope everyone realizes this is pure fiction. LOL)

Introverted

Where I am I cannot tell you
Who they are I can't apprise
Do not look for me this evening
For Fear's formidable in my eyes.

My dialogue ambiguous
But I have hitherto lie
Even in my vaguest of dialect
You must sense my hands are tied.

These behemoths will not harm me
These deplorable creatures with no face
Leave for now if you don't believe me
But my written vociferation you can't displace.

Forgetting I've made impossible
You feel helpless do you not?
You did not want me anyhow
They've left me here unsought

I must be getting back now
To the life you've condemned me to lead
But I must tell you, it enthralls me
To envisage you languishing for your greed.
