Rose in hand, an owner to be replaced
Gait conscious, creases should not show
Scented air, following steps made
Rapping at a door, nerves on edge
Chivalry is dead, though not to all.
A sight to behold, breath succumbs to
memory
Eyes meet in appreciation of efforts
A stem for a hand, fingers find the gaps
The door opens, before a reach is made
Journeying in time, to an era bygone.
Words exchanged, never tempting tedium
Captivated by articulation, goosebumps find their way
Passions and pursuits, a nudity of its own
Excitement overwhelms, a candle in the dark
Romance romanticized, a reality realised.
Walking along a pathway, waving to the shore
Souls admiring life around, the stars and their shine
The air cools, before the offer of a coat
Pride finds its way home, as a heart finds shape
Fickleness exists, constants as well.
Back to the start, only with a key
Pleasure expressed, without fearing unrequitedness
A peck on the cheek, knowing time
A departure of anticipation, thoughts linger
Desiring only one thing yes - if love constitutes desire, it is true.

Ultimate Unrequitedness
________________________________________
Before we met in the flesh
We waltzed with words on a website for dating,
A mating dance for a modern world
We clicked online and off
Profiles made for blending
Amending our previous life errors
For two forty-something's
Fortunate to find old fashioned love
Above anything they'd experienced 'til now
We found common ground
In our un-common past
At last, for two, the one.
Optimistic for our coupling
A future uncertain yet sure
His and hers' mature gift.
She died on a Thursday
Slain by an off springs hand, who emptied
The sand of her life's timer.
Our non-existent plans shattered
By a sick boys' mind
Find it hard to blame the illness, not the child.
What becomes of loves' chemistry
when one element is no more,
Torn from the noble bond.
Surviving this trauma
Does the partner left as one
Become the ultimate unrequited lover.
Dwelling on the promise
Unfulfilled, of a future
Sure to have contained joy at last.
No, the love between two
Lives in the stolen moment
Remembered in peace.

Someone like him was easy to love
and never think about myself
Someone like him won't fall in love
with me
No, he'll always see me as a friend
Every guy like him is the one
I'll fall for head over heels
Then he puts me out on my ear
Still I look to find a reason
to believe in someone like him!
