Mad, they agreed
out of his mind
off of his rocker
flipped his wig
lost all his marbles ...
There was the governor
posing in the center of town
stark-raving nude
neither embarrassment
nor an ounce of shame
Perched uneasily atop
a royal walking-horse
a wizard's tricorn atop his head
-- or was it a dunce's cap
Insanity opened its mouth
the sun set abruptly ~
the moon and stars came out

Halloween Flight
I'm hitching a ride on a witch's broom
From on high we'll see all the Halloween sights
As through the clouds we zip and zoom
On what is known as the scariest of flights.
Skeletons rise from their earthen beds
And mingle with ghosts who are wandering the town
Amongst pirates with tricorn hats on their heads
And Cinderella in her dazzling gown.
Holiday bonfires are burning bright
Like the Samhain* fires of Celtic tradition
When otherworld spirits would rise in the night
And steal away souls to eternal perdition.
But tonight's festivities are all about fun
When ghouls and horror and laughter blend
And the imagination can wildly run
Oh, don't let my Halloween flight end!

Napoleon was miserable
Very sad and flat
To cap it all
A strong wind blew
Whipping off his Tricorn Hat!

Look at my face, -
see scars of Demelt.
Enormous black beard
woven and lit by matches;
staring back at you.
Feared of reputation,
I reflect in my blade -
a ladies man in style.
With feathered tricorn, hemp
and multiple weapons to hand.
Representing ferocious battles,
and yet no account of killing one;
I use my terrors' edge,
to gain entry of ship;
Steal valuables, gold, food, weapons amd liquor.
Aye; 'tis by rumour alone
we did battle those seas
of 1718 and more.
Notorious our piracy legion lives on,
My handle Black Beard, Teach, Drummond.
I forever a treasured and trusted companion,
historic; now I lay to rest for all to see.
One but rescued, when run aground;
on Queen Annes Revenge,
around Ocracoke Inlet, North Carolina Seas.
