The pigeons of Trafalgar Square
Are feathered, yet lacking in hair.
They'd look erudite,
With wigs powdered white,
But wouldn't get up in the air.

Treasure trove for intimate set, tourists slide into glory hole.
Warm springs, hopping boulders, the rush of Trafalgar soul.

a total news blackout
but anyone would be the same
the public never knew of it
did it matter?
they were doomed
from the start
my mate didn't care
about the FA Cup last week
the germans don't
care about the percieved
or actually non-existent
football rivalry with England
sweep the battle losses
under the steamer rug
if you win a tin cup
you'll refer to with pride
it took me a day and a
half to get over Nelson's
death
(stick the kettle on)
but that's when it came to life
Villeneuve an outstanding
time bomb
THE ENEMY IS AT SEA!
Trafalgar
like all historical events
momentous and noteworthy
immaterial and beside the point

"Don't look a gift horse in the mouth", I question.
Research on this ancient proverb, of course
finally brought me to this aged suggestion:
"the longer its teeth, the older the horse."
Remembering a blue-chip London bus trip
we took a journey to T-Square perforce.
There upon the fourth plinth, we dared not to skip
the stellar sculpture called Hans Haacke's "Gift Horse."
Borrowing from equine pictures drawn by George Stubbs,
Fulfillment for posterity, Hans' ace of clubs.
Readily, H. Haacke now spins a skeleton
which features a ribbon of ticker tape
from the London's Stock Exchange's latest run.
Money and power set in a new shape.
But recently, fate has behooved to remove
this sculpture to Chicago's latitutde.
Proverb's warning: Looking at its teeth for proof,
you slay a gift horse with ingratitude.

Nelson paced the deck of the Victory
In waters off the coast of Gibraltar
Signalled to his fleet to do their duty
Before the battle known as Trafalgar.
~
Off the Spanish coast man o' wars engaged
In battle paid for in lives at great cost
Loud booms of cannon as the fighting raged
At the battles end three thousand lives lost.
~
England outnumbered had the lesser fleet
Twenty seven ships against thirty three
Admiral Villeneuve suffererd defeat
Against a brave and determined navy.
~
A French sniper shot Nelson fatally
On his death bed was told of victory.
