Note: Tortoises are land-dwelling while turtles are aquatic
She sat on the back of a turtle
then said
" Go Go Go !"
While he
on stumpy feet
trumbled
and humphed
"you are mighty hefty !"
he configured.
She guided him to the water
then said
"Go Go Go"
I know
you want to
what is stopping you?
"You've mistaken me
for a tortoise little girl ! "
She turns around and
leads him to land,
and together they sit
in the sand...

He bought the barren island for $13,000
Together with a friend, they planted 16,000 trees
For 40 years, the island turn into a sanctuary
Of insects, flowers, birds and tortoises which became
Famous and well known throughout the country
He turned down offer being a news editor and settled
The rest of his whole life living in the island
He manage the island well and made it
An important place in his private life
The island grow well with his own management
The Saudi prince want to buy the island for $10 million
But he refuses the offer for personal reason
Until, one day he announced and open it to the public
The island became an important tourist destinations
People flocked and flourished the island
He died with old age in the island
The country declared the island as a National Park
In lieu of his stated Last Will.

Unlike flower essence, which becomes roses or lilies,
Unlike animal essence that's born into birds and beasts
To bring within humanity love, justice, trust, and peace
The divine takes the human form, and with it co-exists
Gods and goddesses, Hinduism holds, took the form of fish.
Hummingbirds, alligators, tortoises, snakes, stags, and boars
Into eagles, horses, peacocks, doves, vultures, and Ibis
The Greek deities took forms and fulfilled their earthly chores.
Impossibilities for humans are made possible.
Weak flesh and strong spirit amalgamate into a whole.
The eternal, intangible becomes accessible.
Each physical particle turns into a psychic soul.
Omnipresence, like flowers and aroma, becomes one.
All that is celestial, like the rain, descends on the earth.
With the Holy Ghost, herein dwell. the Father and the Son.
Each being, in the Holy Trinity, gains their new birth.

The calm, composed Coconut Beach of Cambodia
Or the Galápagos Islands of sublime sereneness
Boats of quietude sail through the seas of Utopia.
Stream, brook, sunrise, sunset—nature's flowery floridness
The breathing of butterflies and the blooming of blossoms
Confessions of Cherubic Caves and Covenants of Clouds
Desert islands and deserted monumental chasms
Fancies of farms, fields, forests, fishes, flocking feathered fowls
Monasteries and museums in meditation moods
Readings of reeds, restings of reptiles, river reflections
Slow snake-skates, snowfalls, stargazing space-spa solitudes
Turtles and tortoises, all underwater attractions.
Sacrosanct silent scenes share stories splendid and sublime.
Like millions of melodies, within soul cells they always chime.

I'm solitary, roaming
The American southwest desert;
Heaving my bulky body -
Covered with bead-like scales
Of black and yellow -
Across hot sands and rocks
In search of prey.
I'm a nocturnal,
Cold-blooded lizard.
I flick out my forked poisonous tongue
To taste the air like snakes do.
Do not confuse me
With a Komodo Dragon,
I'm a much smaller reptile,
And I wear a different skin.
My tail is rather short.
My razor sharp claws are used
To dig burrows and unearth
Buried eggs of tortoises, snakes,
And other lizards.
My diet include small crawlies
Such as rodents, frogs, meerkats, etc.
I don't mind birds and their young!
I'm a Gila Monster

A white wash of striated clouds
stretch expansively
across the arid desert sky
where Joshua trees commune
lifting up crooked cactus-like arms
towards the searing sun.
Massive layers of brown boulders
jut, forming endless sculptures
hidden places where the ancients
made their penitence with words
swept away by unforgiving winds.
Shadows shift under the arc of the sun
where nervous roadrunners dart
startled lizards seek shade
great hawks circle with outstretched wings
and tortoises amble as the hours crawl by.
Two lane highways trail into the horizon
toward snow capped mountain peaks
lined by nameless telephone poles
and tumbleweeds that roll aimlessly
across storefronts and sleepy
rundown towns in disrepair.
Yet the mystique of the Mojave plains
still remains an inviting oasis
of refreshment and contemplation
where time stands still
beneath the stillness
of the midnight stars.

We invited the new family to Sunday tea.
Who knew they would all tortoises be?
We pretended it was normal, Gram and me.
They did not reach for a single chocolate chip cookie.
Go out and catch some flies, said Auntie Bea.
They like them fresh and alive with their tea.
The way she knew was funny to little old me.
She used to date an old tortoise, you see.

When our flag on Red-fort flew first,
Elders felt no hunger or thirst;
They stood as sure as very hell,
That everything is going well!
They saw, thenceforth, like freedom plays,
This game got assumed many ways;
Leaders, like prophets, seemed so sure,
The gift of freedom to ensure!
Wheels, like bullock-carts, rolled on long,
Change, like tortoises, did prolong;
They felt as though in safer hands,
No fear of hard hooligan bands!

Do we see the same now, I doubt,
Here exist now much flood and drought;
Longings of poor, here, daily die,
No poor here! To the world, we lie…
Flag, each year, we hoist, as a rule,
I stand as a devoted fool;
Of all colors, saffron shines more,
Have other matters gone so sour?

A porcupine, an owl and a beautiful iguana
Were among the creatures that I got to see;
And no, I wasn’t dreaming it or smoking marijuana –
Every animal was real as it could be.
For my grandkids were invited to a show with all these creatures;
There were also frogs and tortoises and snakes.
It was wonderful to see, up close, exotic facial features,
Some of which resulted in some double-takes.
Both my grands were quite enchanted and were brave enough for petting,
Gently stroking certain reptiles’ backs or shells
And I joined in their enthusiasm, somehow, though, forgetting,
Age has no effect on Nature’s magic spells.

Underneath green leaves that wave at the sun,
Goes mad activity in the environs of summer!
Fuzzy rabbits hopping along sunshine bound,
Scurrying racoons-bandits off for a heist,
Bushy tailed squirrels dancing in the pines,
As fresh scent wafts through the afternoon!
Chipmunks rush to feast on the wild berries,
As violet birds are off to feast on cherries.
Chirping crickets and buzzing bees day to day,
As the earth moves round in the familiar way.
Eager frogs leap wide eyed on a vivid quest;
And blue snakes slither in the emerald bushes.
Tortoises and turtles do a slow dance with June,
As ruby-throated hummingbirds hum a sunny tune!

An average human lives around seven dog lives,
four to six cat lives, over twenty gerbil lives
but only three or four chinchilla lives,
if our lone chinchilla who died at twenty
is typical and you’re not raising them for the fur.
We're slightly over the lifespan of wild African elephants
but more than double that of their zoo born kin,
roughly twice the life of an average dromedary,
although I’ve never known an average dromedary,
in between the mean for sperm and blue whales
but only eighty percent that of Galápagos tortoises.
Mind you elephants, dromedaries, whales and
tortoises aren’t normally kept as pets. Neither
are viruses, although technically speaking viruses
may not be alive to start with. But nonetheless
this novel coronavirus we humans have
adopted could change
the numbers for
our species.

THE CAT, THE DOG, THE MOUSE AND THE RABBIT HUTC>/center>
When passing the pet shop window, I saw a wondrous sight.
The pets were having a party, far into the night.
The cat was smoking a home-made spliff she’d rolled between her paws;
The dog was sipping pink champagne and nibbling petit fours.
The pet mouse jived with the python, getting ever bolder;
Until she pulled a muscle, throwing him over her shoulder.
The doe, in a slinky cocktail dress and the buck in a silk tuxedo,
Slipped behind their rabbit hutch to exercise their libido.
The tortoises, though normally shy, had come right out of their shell
And took the floor in a slow waltz, which of course they did rather well.
They beckoned me to join them and we danced at a furious pace.
And then I awoke with a tickly nose; my cat was licking my face.

The universe relentlessly expands in vicious circles, of which I move around in
Infinite regression is the mark I toe, that leads me to ecumenical emancipation
I collect neural correlates of consciousness from the stars in an unkempt sky
Pollinating nuclear fusions with my angular momentum, if that makes any sense
I commence to dispense immense nonsense in sequence with no consequence
Out of the darkness it has come to light that we are all crepuscular tortoises
Traversing the shell of a much larger terrapin, as one would walk on the ground
Realizing the cosmos is no less than turtles stacked on turtles all the way down
