The Arrival of 1960's Television

The furniture was rearranged,
to make sure there was space,
and suddenly the radiogram,
had moved to second place.

Now we would have Thunderbirds,
Star Trek and man on the moon,
Tomorrow’s World had landed,
right there in the living room.

And no-one in the family,
could really disagree,
with the magic or excitement,
of our black and white TV.

There was a note of caution though,
when mum to our surprise,
said, “don’t complain to me,
if you end up with square eyes…”.

Premium MemberI Was Playing Thunderbirds With My Kids and Forgot What Thunderbird 3 Was, So Asked the Lifeguard

he was unaware
wolf
which was disappointing
never attempt to move or donkey punch
the empire state building

ten years of planning
ten years of shrooms
ended with puppets
and strings like cave cheese
and shreddies

we were alone in the pool
the lifeguard looked like
satan's gumdrop

layered like pie
and like a puppet on a string
junk socks and dutch rowboats
i told reception it was my first time at this pool

i was told i could use my token for the locker
i told reception again it was my first time at this pool

an overchlorinated swimming hole

Premium MemberDriving Ms Cat Car

It is 1954, and the sun is shining brightly with feeling.
I am lying in my room, staring at the bland white ceiling.
Go out and do something! My mother urges me again.
There is nothing to do, without my friend, my twin.

A car comes screeching around the corner and Ms. Cat is here.
I run out there, as swiftly and happily as any being-chased deer.
She is the epitome of a good time, this hilarious feline pure.
She says “Hop in!” and I leap into her T-bird and yell “sure!”

When did you have it painted? I asked her. Yesterday it was red.
My daddy’s butlers turned it pink this morning, that cagy cat said.
She wanted it to match her scarf, and it was the perfect color pink.
The amount of money her daddy made the rest of us really think.

She let me drive her around, and I wore a smart black chauffer hat.
My friends laughed at this, but I did not care because of our great chat.
She told me how to make money, and I took her advice this day.
I now have two Thunderbirds, and others work while I play away

Vehicles, muscled cars were built, to be fast;
creatures of iron and steel;
the wildest beasts.

In the day of manufactured power, Lynx and Jaguar raced; thunderbirds flew low to ground with wings,
as fast as, a road runner.

The mighty Chevy of “57” dreams;
leant compassions ear to young Edsel,
when he failed his popularity test.

Lightening swift, these darts did fly;
racing down, route “66” back then,
the pride supported its own.

Metal, mega-mammals, like all others;
live and die their last wheeze and cough,
recorded by the crusher.

Those who signed away body parts;
the donors left a re-built legacy.

Beautiful and powerful, as their ancestors;
legacy lives on but, route “66” is a much milder path.

In Heaven’s showroom;
lion and lamb lie, side-by-side;
these are the souls of the metal mammals.

Old Tv

I remember when I was young
A man on the screen tightening bolts
Another, his brother?
Was frightening folks,
I gathered the latter had died.

And the lovely lady with the blonde hair,
She came on a chat show with old Fred Astaire,
Then suddenly one day,
She was no longer there,
And everyone sat down and cried.

The fat and the thin one were having a lark,
Black Beauty would gallop and Lassie would bark,
The real scary ones,
Who came on in the dark,
'Im not frightened' I frequently lied.

Daft northern comics, the Danny Kaye Show,
Brave Captain Scarlet, Thunderbirds go,
The hours I watched them,
I shall never know,
But theyre all of them here in my mind.

Arbitration

The street is full of aimless passers,
Individually strategizing how life would be worth lived,
Thunderbirds then come to peck on delicious fruitful trees,
Having no idea about how it got yielded,
We kept wearing ourselves with those anxieties of life embedded,
Couldn't quench our thirst with the pure fountain,
So knowledge in the authors book was stolen from our captain,
Due to the reason of being comprehensive to a mind.

Fab Virgil

The bikies are in town today
Least they're trying to make us think so
 I know different
 Thunderbirds, they really are
 FAB Virgil
 I heard someone say

Lady Penelope sits astride a 97 Bonneville
 I'd know that hairstyle anywhere

Thunderbird 1 cloaked as a Norton Commando
 Thunderbirds 3 and 4
 Triumphs the both of them

International rescue comes to town
 Something big is going down
 Must be

 I spied Thunderbird 2
 Parked outside the TAB
 Stopped and asked Virgil
 For an autograph
Told him I liked his Hells Angels costume
And asked if he and Lady P
Were off to a costume party

Then he showed me
The special markings on his arms
Proof he was from International Rescue
 And suggested I leave quickly
 Clearly something big going down
 International Rescue come to town

Madd (So Sadd)

Grasp for the clutch,
(clutching on automatic
chances)
clench my jaw –
am I clutch?
no luck.

I gasp! (gassed)
the gas-tank tanked.
Tired I try,
but floppy tires
blunder
like a drove
of drunken thunderbirds.

“Gear up guy! Get some get-go!”
I exhaust, idle
and stammer,
grass spattered,
paint chips scattered,
brakes broke
and steering hammered -

destination
is going,
rear-view gone.

Turn my wheels (or my keys, at least).
Just don’t give me a brake.

He Who Sees Dreams

That wrinkled old Apache
He Who Sees the Dreams,
Is said to be half-crazy and old
As the rivers and the streams.

He says he saw two great mountains
Made of iron and of glass--
And then two silent Thunderbirds,
Before his dream did soon pass.

And then there came great lightning
As the birds hit solid rock,
Then both the mighty mountains fell
And all the world stopped in shock.

What next I asked He Who Sees Dreams:
He said it was unfulfilled.
Enemies like wolves surround you
And your great land goes untilled.

I trembled and then I shuddered
To hear of this dreary foe:
"There are those brave and those that die--
But rewards are what you sow."

These were last words of He Who Sees
As he pointed to the moon so high,
The two twin mountains were now gone,
But eagles filled morning sky.
