I told the nurse
I swallowed a snake.
He charted: religious mania.

But I felt her—
three and a half turns
sleeping
just south of the back
of my clavicle.

I called her Vera
then,
full breath
pried me open.
Fire-rising,
slithering:

it was gospel

sliding
down my vertebrae—
a ladder
Jacob had forgotten—
yea and behold though
we came

back for it.
I couldn’t stop laughing.
Or crying.
Or saying
I saw light in the colorless
rooms
outside
understanding.

When I explained, again,
how god comes
in my root,
propels
herself through
my expanded
throat
chakra,
they were furious—
branded me
inpatient,
wrapped my wrists,
ordered more
Thorazine.

They don’t let me
sit cross-legged,
say my mantra
disturbs
the others.

Just between
you and me
this energy wall
crumbling, this crux
of second comings,
this fifth horseman—
is a woman re-forming

initiation:
an apocalypse
finally
worth the animal
salt-sweat
hump
it took to get it
going.

Just Another Mental Illness Day Age Twelve

Awakened
realizing I was in shock
she rolled me over
and did it again are you glad?
Sad a puppies brown hair
green eyes
frizzled dazzlers
gelled hair.

Thorazine hidden in my orange
orange juice
without a just claim to fame
dipped in a language
you can read on your toast.

Simpson
please rest with
Spector there
grow old and smile.
Dreams
mental illness
rushed through your head
no voice of reason, I
Hide in my bed
my arms are like a cross
both of my hands in restraints.

Rooms
with no exits
to many padded cells
morally bankrupt that shrink was let go.

He unfurled his sail
Then claimed us as his cows and sheep
and thus we smelt of sleep.

Covid-Nineteen In Twenty-Twenty

Everyone's quarantined, I'm out of Thorazine
Stuck in the house, me and my spouse

When we woke up today, no lights on Broadway
It was shut down, my New York town

Stores out of toilet paper, stuck in a skyscraper
For fifteen days, stay six feet away

Cat five hurricanes, I'm wrapped in cellophane
My poor brain, climate change

Wildfires and earthquakes, HE's saying pump the brakes
Greenhouse effect, did you forget

In a few hundred years, destroyed the land of HIS
We abused it, face the music

Two weeks no pollution, its just been proven
The sky is clear, in this leap year

Living off the land, helping your fellow man
The way it should be, hoarding's so ugly

Everyone come together, be a good neighbor
It's not about you, this; the preview

Modern day test of time, not about your mighty dime
COVID-Nineteen, pray for a vaccine!

It's An Illusion

(one-act play)

The patient

They call it a sickness, a psychosis, an insanity, but I know: this is the leverage
by means of which I can set the wheels of the universe in motion. All I need is to find the last fragment they hide from me in the thorazine haze, and the bevel gears of this rickety old, long derelict mechanism will work again.

The medical board resolution:

“…schizophrenic… unruly… incurable, liable for drowning in the hospital’s sinkhole”.

1st psychiatrist
(looking at the sky)

Don't you think the Sun slowly moves across the sky today?

2nd psychiatrist;

It’s an illusion, my friend. It’s an illusion.

Crucifixion 2012

The courtroom atmosphere was electric kangaroo
the prosecution had succeeded in pulling off a coup.
They had Jesus handcuffed with some other Nazarenes
wearing inmate orange and strung out on Thorazine.
The defense objected wildly, understandably distraught,
Pilot overruled the motion and yelled "order in the court."
The ACLU applauded, it was a victory
for all their godless secular ideology.

The mood outside the courthouse grew increasingly intense
as Pilot played the media robed in his innocence.
Then the liberals went ecstatic when he washed his hands
and released Barabbas who took off for Disneyland.
The whole thing was a set up but no one gave a care,
the crowd was in a frenzy, the smell of blood was in the air.
The mob chanted "crucifixion" but it got delayed
when there was a protest the cross was not union made.

Jugularing Six Balls At Once

JUGULARING SIX BALLS AT ONCE

Unlike myself can someone please use their brain
And tell me if a person can KNOW when they’re going insane
Is it when someone always walks into the same damned wall?
Or when a person can’t tell the summer from the fall?

I can’t be certain but I may be very close
And if anyone has thorazine please send me a dose
Because I can’t be sure but I think I’m nearing that point
And oxi-codone, xanax, doesn’t help nor does a joint

It seems to me if I were going insane I wouldn’t know it
I’d just decide if I should slit my jugular vein or throw a fit
I mean yesterday I knew south from north
Now all I do is walk back and forth

My brain has become an artifact of yesterday
And it’s becoming more difficult to hold insanity at bay
It’s as if my intelligence and memory have both been slain
So if anyone knows please tell me when one knows they’re going insane

He Writes Poetry

He writes poetry
Like Christopher Reeve’s
Break-dancing

Could you read this poem
He asks

And you would love to
If only between the spelling
And the handwriting
There was a way
Of deciphering
What it was that he wrote

But
There are those
Who think he’s the best thing
Since popcorn
… I’m not one

That’s not to say
I haven’t tried
To understand
What the hell he writes about
But my days as a cryptographer
Have long since gone

Still
I know a few people
That I visit
From time to time
Who enjoy both his poetry
And thorazine

I mean
After all
He writes poetry

Leather arm straps to my side….
Chemically fried

Remember Me....(Bittersweet)

I am your oppressor
the stick upon your open wounds
the salt within the gaping flesh
a chaotic storm upon your soul

I am the one who swore
you'd never amount to anything
the rope that held you in place
a dagger plunged within your heart

I am the ultimate tranquilizer
that keeps you in a stupor
as a world of happiness flies by
the thorazine laced with blues

I am your past, present and future
the coffin that nestles pleasant dreams
and turns them to nightmares
an abyss of all your childhood fantasies

Remember me
I am Love
that taste of honey
you'll never know............

My Private Asylum

I live my life in my own private asylum,
with crazy thoughts that blow through my brain,
they constantly assure me that i'm insane.
I ask the shrinks "what can it be?"
they say maybe, possibly, could be A.D.D.

What can you shrinks ever do for me?
To cause these thoughts to never be.
We'll give you a pill to suppress your thoughts,
a pill that will tie your brain in knots,
a pill that will make it hard to talk,
and also make you slow to walk.

I dread the pills they freely give,
strung out on medicine is no way to live.
ridelin, thorazine, and synaquan too,
are medicines, that they can prescribe for you.

None of these pills, i hope to take,
lets try counseling, for Christ sake.
If the counseling doesn't repair,
and the pills are to strong to bare.
I'll choose to live, without it all.
looking at the walls,
of my private asylum

Paging Dr. Turtle

I woke up early this morning
And then I let the dog outside
Then I fixed myself some breakfast
And I went out for a ride

The sky was looking funny
And the trees were pink not green
There were elephants out jumping
On giant trampolines

The squirrels were playing poker
And the dogs were driving cars
Pickup trucks were flying
And the cats were tending bars

I thought I must be going crazy
For sure I am going mad
Then I saw this little turtle
And he looked so very sad

So I asked the little guy
What is bothering you today?
He said it’s the other turtles
They say I am too small to play

So I looked across the street
In an empty lot they stood
Turtles playing baseball
And wow they sure were good

So I got back in my car
And I slowly drove away
When I looked back in my mirror
I heard that turtle say

200 mg of Thorazine nurse
