There
Lake's edge
we picnicked
Butt 'gainst the wet
we had umbrellas
and the barbecue pit
we roasted the marshmallows
But the finest were yet to come
There'd be the pitch of night and the flames
from the pit likewise the green of her eyne

He is from the great USA state of Texas, so he has bragging rights.
Everything is bigger and better there, they have incredible sights.
Stetson’s are bigger, their cowboy boots are made with more leather.
If we have a tornado, they have a cyclone and hailstorm in their weather.
Their cars and their houses are bigger, by at least double, he says.
Native Americans there can bead gowns twice as fast on the Res.
My husky is a giant dog I tell him, this you cannot dispute.
In answer, he drags over his enormous Alaskan Malamute.

When I caught the Mexican
Who’d run off with my lexicon
He said are you a Texican?
It seems he couldn’t read

Send the kids to school to be shot
Or church to become a sex pot
With COVID-19
Becoming a teen
May be the slimmest chance they've got!
n.b. Texans believe life is only sacred
until the breath of life is inhaled
after which everyone is fair game!

Texans are not known for their brains
Which go off the rails just like trains
But why should they care?
They're going nowhere
Why worry who's holding the reins?

Mister hirsute and strong
just felt totally wrong
The comedian was funny
underneath not-so-sunny
A financier, short and stout
his bulging midriff stuck out
So, she risked it all
on a Texan real tall
But she learned her lesson
without any question
The taller the 'you-all'
the farther he falls

As I walked down the streets of Laredo
I spied a Mexican hot potato
But better by far
A Cuban cigar
With a spicy Comanche tomato

there was a kidder who sat on a *hitter
he pushed long and hard for he was no quitter
but nothing came out
he left with a pout
that gritty old kidder was named Tex Ritter

She wades along a bustling Texan street,
A line of roses drifts on like a fleet
While unicorns climb in her head;
Galloping with dreams, refreshed
By softened mist, that eases eyes
To ride the carousel of skies.
She breathes a thrilled wish on Lone Star
As gems pour, showered by centaurs
On nightfall when breeze wisps her hair,
Ringing out tunes with precious care.
Pure magic of horns romp with beats,
Till natal cheers make her complete!

London rain and Texan skies
Warm my heart and thrill my eyes
Flooded streets and clouds for miles
Think I’ll stay here for a while
Bright red buses and trusty steeds
Carry my spirit wherever they lead
City bustling and cattle at graze
This is where I spend my days
Royal parks with Texas Rangers
Sounds of home could not be stranger
London Symphony plays Tex Ritter
Here is where you’ll see me linger
Buckingham Palace address Dealey Plaza
My horizon spans farther and vaster
Cockney slang welcomes y’all
To a place my happiness befalls
Union Jack flies Stars and Stripes
A family parted again unites
An English rose with roots state side
A love of each, to both I’m tied

Of all my acquaintances or even kin,
Or those that fall somewhere between;
My most preferred Texan that's ever been,
Is my good friend and buddy, Shirlene.
I've known this woman for many years,
She's grown closer though years were lost.
On her behalf i have silently shed tears,
Which was part of a lost friends cost.
But now frequent visits we have arranged,
We sarcastically bite and tease for sure.
We reminisce those years when not estranged,
She's a bond for which I've found no cure.
If I searched all of Texas from foothill to plain,
In my mind no one else could fill the bill.
So why waste time if there's nothing to gain?
Shirlene stands alone atop the highest hill.
