He tried
but for him
speech did not
come easily,
the parrot had a stutter
starting with a sputter --
tripped over
every third word
sounding quite absurd
the clipped-wing bird;
his flight, as well,
a jump and a fell --
a monumental flop,
every spring
followed by a plop...
and Boots, the penthouse cat
a bit of a louse
absent a mouse
terrorizes Carrot~ the penthouse
parrot --
poor Boots, dreams of woods
feline hunts and captures
kept from the wild
chooses poor Carrot
for his daily, stalking raptures --

she comes in July on years she wants to come
Her name is unknown, but she terrorizes everyone
a poltergeist with a mission to shake us in our sleep
She is particularly annoying when our slumber is so deep
we wake up with a start, after she whispers in our ear our name.
no idea what she is after, but each visit is relatively the same.
She gets us up with a whisper, than resorts to clicks and a pop.
We beg her to go away, the children yell for her to stop!
Is it a relative? Someone asked me when I shared the story.
No idea, I told them, but she is terrifying in her loudest glory.
She shakes the windows and rattles the hinge off our closet door.
We beg her to leave us alone, but she shakes us when we snore.
The bed is sometimes lifted up and then thrown back on the ground.
Fearful she is going to really hurt us, she is annoying to have around.

Prisoner of the enigmatic sea,
standing alone upon the rocky shore.
Once it illuminated the horizons,
now abandoned, it watches as waves roar.
Powerful winds influence the current,
as the atmosphere perspires salty air.
In conjunction the ocean joins the storm,
raging tides dance with malevolent flair.
Tempest terrorizes with wild fury,
flooding lands, demolishing weak buildings.
Animals suffer with fishermen lost,
storm leaves behind an aftermath of killings.
Standing tall through this barbaric onslaught,
unscathed the lighthouse combated all harm.
Replaced by modern day technology,
deserted, forgotten but not lost its charm.

The sobering sounds of silence
That's weighing heavy as it nears
The hungry breath of mortal death
That's preying heavy on my fears
Now terrorizes heart and soul
Clouding my weary eyes with tears
No going back when all turns black
Shrouding my weary days and years

It took three weeks to get the
wife’s cat to eat ‘whatever’
I put in front of it.
No longer it terrorizes us when
time comes to feed it.
It took three week to change its status
back to family pet,
last one in the pecking order.
An animal that should be grateful
we let it live with us provide shelter
from storms its counterparts
must endure outside.
Three weeks it took of not folding
& opening new cans of food cause
it wouldn’t eat the first can given it.
Cause maybe it had gravy or maybe it didn’t,
or the meat wasn’t chopped or chopped way too much,
or whatever excuse the old lady came up with for it!
Three weeks of letting it mope around cry
in front of its bowl as if it was in heat.
Three weeks till it got the message.
A new sheriff was in town, and
he doesn’t give a damn,
if you starve to death!

Pumpkin man tore off another’s arm for a walking stick.
He hiked through the pine forest with one-armed Nick.
The frown he gave me turned my hair star white.
Even on Halloween, this creep gave me a fright.
He had a foul odor and a glare to his ebony eyes.
He travelled with dead pumpkins, no big surprise.
I was terrified when he chased me in my dreams.
Don’t worry, he’s not as scary as he always seems!
Where had the voice come from? I yelled “hark!”
Opened my eyes and saw Pumpkin man in the dark.

It is August, summer break.
Our six-year-old grandson Jay comes to spend the night.
His great grandfather terrorizes him with scary stories.
Each of them begins and ends with a frightening red robot.
“He is from the planet Marconius, and he always kills people.”
I ask my grandfather to please stop scaring him.
He scoffs at my efforts. “He likes it! “He tells me.
I forgot that there was an antique robot in my daughter’s bedroom.
Where Jay is going to spend the night.
Jay begins screaming because he thinks he has seen it move.
We let him sleep with the storyteller.

I am driving to school in the dark this morning
Skinny bare branches moving ominously over my car get my attention
What if they were not branches, but a dead man’s hands?
I visualize him hanging by his feet, ropes tied around his ankles
His gaping wide mouth terrorizes me as I think of his anguish
If his fingers grazed the top of my windshield, would I scream?
Where do you get this stuff? Trixie, my opinionated muse asks.
I stick my tongue out at her.
We have that kind of relationship.

Until the cap is won, effect of heat on reasoning remains unknown.
Until the palace is visited, that comfort creates discomfort is undiscovered.
Until power is tasted, that corruption is a genetic disorder remains a fallacy.
Dereliction, never a power disability, but a long inherited trait in ANTIQUITY
The Lion hectors the antelope
The Antelope terrorizes the grass
Strength uncommon to both BUT power.
Vulgarism and terrorism, power that corrupts the powered.
Corona virus, a legal tender to decipher corrupt human trait
The politician the national purse suppressed, the Grocer the destitute suppressed.

Poetry comes from the body, all of it, transmitted with marks on stone, scratches on paper, is kept alive to transcend time and space, reflects the rhythms of flesh and natural life, is intimate, is cold, is a message in a bottle, offends, comforts, and terrorizes with its blade, dispels falsehoods, guides the self to deep and personal interiors, makes music out of air and tongue, lights a single candle in the cavern, strips away the skin, bleaches the bones white, tells the true and untold stories of the heart, and for a moment, liberates that which we cannot define.

Depression is oppression.
It's a deadly hidden message
Defined by self-hate.
It seals its prisoner's fate.
It holds you captive and throws out the key.
It stabs and jabs just to see you bleed,
Inflicting wounds that scar for life.
Destruction is its mother and death its wife.
You can cry, but it will always ignore your screams.
It terrorizes your soul and haunts your dreams.
It sends you false hope through a bottle or pill.
It destroys your goals and inflicts its will.
You can't run, nor can you hide.
By its rules you will abide
Until it celebrates that you have died.
Open your eyes, or you will be its prey.
It will blur your vision in the most twisted way.
It will seek your destruction and call for your head.
You will lie and wait but never rest in your bed.
Peace will come to those who want peace,
But as long as you feed him, you will see the beast.
You can't run, nor can you hide,
But if you conquer the beast, you will survive.
Prayer and hope can lead the way.
Cling on to every word you pray.
Hope is in truth.
Hate is in lies.
Pray for your soul and open your eyes.

TWO WORLDS
The earth full of plants, animals and water
Covers of skin on every human
Glisters of dew that shine in daylight
Nightlife of terror terrorizes the quiet ones
What is waiting is no answer to any
Be quiet or be shut!
Listen carefully to each other as heart beat to beat
Remembering there is a past, to the present and future
Gently move your fingers through those skins
Animals, plants, all leaving
These worlds are apart.
Now will time let go or come to pass.
These are forever intact and will forever remain stance.
