the doll stare

There are forty-eight dolls in this guest room
I see them staring at me
Many wear porcelain bonnets
They are statues with accusing faces
I wonder if they came from Salem
I feel they have come for me

Testing Ourselves

Sometimes we stare
Into the eyes
Of oncoming cars
Merely for the thrill of it,

To pretend as they do in stories
That the good hero darts away
Just in time,
While the evil villain is crushed
Beneath the vehicle, blood on his lips.

We wait 
Until the last possible moment
Pulling back
To understand
Which role we play.

Someone's Always

You're one of the reasons why the smile sees
You're stare is the one who gives me peace

Boomers watch flames in burning fires inside,
They dream in vinyl, staring with eyes open wide.

The rose won’t pose, won't stay its will,

The lemon makes faces with bitter pride,
It hides its shyness with a snide slide.

As each freeze-frame is displayed.

Casting a blank stare,

Into the corners of my mind.

Darkness everywhere,

Blank Stare From A Rocking Chair

A breeze did slide in under eaves
and stirred inside the air that grieves,
my children grown  my dreams have flown,
alone I sit my rocking throne.

My chair in front of window bare,
I look… but husband’s soul elsewhere.
Beneath my feet the floorboards moan,

The Gentle Stare

The sunlight spills across her hair, a river of spun gold, And I, like a moth drawn to a flame it cannot hold, observe her from afar, My gaze, a silent symphony, a melody that never leaves my heart, I wonder, am I allowed to look at her with such a tender, lingering start?

• One eye red and one eye blue
• It's really something rare
• People often curiously stare
