apple cores bifurcated
maggoty realms
spilled over
long stems bled
a sluggish
green insemination
toward evening
small apes gathered
to scream at the
new moon
there were bones
to be split,
marrow to be scraped out
with stone spearheads
it was not the beginning
nor even the
end of the beginning
swamp waters
still bubbled up a choking miasma
of stale fertility
yet some
hunted a muddy earth
knuckles walking
a few agile brains
grew more alert
to upright visions

The Battlefield was alive
Rows of soldiers on either side
Flutes and drums played behind me
My brother's stood beside me
The bright sun challenge my sight
Hearts racing ready to fight
Bayonet rests heavy on my arm
Waiting for the command to charge
Yesterday's battle scars
Irritate under my tabart
Whistle blower starts the race
Collision course at gruesome pace
Dodging arrows and spearheads
I fell over the fallen dead
Face down I have a choice to make
Continue the fight or make death fake
I took a deep breath and jumped up
Taking part in the punch up
When the Director shouted "cut, that's a wrap"
Tomorrow's scence is about a booby trap

They are not from Chiang Mai,
they are a tribal people
who speak a hill language.
They ride through the night
on bicycles to settle at dawn
beside the Ping River.
Girls' unroll rattan mats
squat beside straw hats brimful
with the tang of burgundy chilies
They have vegetables
grown in lime green waters,
parched salty anchovies,
and plump spearheads
of opalescent fish -
all these are bargained for,
bundled in newspaper,
tied with pink raffia.
Our lives cross here.
A few coins dropped into an open palm,
nods and smiles by a river,
a common currency bridging
alien worlds.

Shaft of sunlight crawls across the lawn,
it's amber wash sets apple trees aglow,
their shadows form, the spearheads of the dawn
now bully cowering bedding plants below.
Before the darkness on the ground recedes,
Blackbird darts out for food, with sudden stops
to monitor some movement in the weeds,
then heads for safety in the bramble tops.
A yawning cat emerges, looks about,
no sport, no competition to amuse,
its shift is over, time to now clock out
for breakfast, comfy cushion and a snooze.
Some folk like lying in, but then they miss
those peaceful, lazy sunrises like this.

WHEN WISDOM WALKS
Lies,
shams,
they cloud
the truth's eyes.
They seed buds of sin
which unfolds to depravity,
as they... can smother hope or stroke all lobes of the mind
but if we let honesty spearheads our deeds then there we permitted wisdom to walk...
