You whirl, you whir, a sparkler with no plan.
A frantic rush, chasing all you think you can.
Each flip is fragile, fleeting, never really sown.
A scatter gun feast, that leaves you all alone.
You blaze as if the world will soon ignite.
Your tiny body burns with furious light.
Your haste is commanding, yet what is it worth?
Without pausing to taste the fleeting mirth?
The garden knows your madness; it makes it clear,
That no blossom trusts your beat to linger near.
You skim, you dart, you never claim the whole.
For your shallow sips can never fill the soul.
A slower hand, will plant, endure and stay,
Learning the patient slow cadence of the day.
For haste will scatter, shatter what was planned,
Quickly yielding the dust you cannot stand.
Why do you not linger longer at what you sip?
Your feet are a blur; your body is a whip.
But, why this panicked, fevered, fleeting chase?
What force is driving you at such a pace?
Can menacing winds command you to not rest?
Or are rivals sneaking in, invading your nest?
You know a steady heart, outlasts a flashing one.
Playing slow and stead get the victory won.

Whirlwind
Of summer embers
Stirs up
From the un-mowed grass
Swept by the brooms of July 4th fireworks
Booming distant in the furled city
Up high
To the tree tops
The fire flies rise
To the hunger of bats that swoop as spoons
Banging the pan of moon
More than enough for all
The stars
Lightning bugs
Moonbeams and bean wings
Consciousness everywhere
Our heads tilt
On their cracked bodies
Statues
Still standing
For a longer whisper
In the ancient gallery of this summer
My wife her husband
Hands freed from our marble robes
We
Ignite and hold
The gold of a sparkler
Close to our faces.

Once,
the world was stitched in crayons;
lemon yellows, ocean blues,
skies that never ended
and trees that could talk
if you listened hard enough.
I used to run
with arms outstretched,
believing wind could lift me,
believing in magic
found in cereal boxes,
closets,
the curve of a shadow.
But now,
the rollercoaster creaks
where it used to roar.
Books I once clutched to my chest
gather dust
on shelves too high
to reach without trying.
Even the stars blink slower
like they’re tired
of being wished on.
Toys lie silent in boxes
where my voice used to echo,
and holidays feel
less like fireworks,
more like flickering bulbs
you forget to replace.
Yet somehow,
beneath the graying,
the dimming,
the thinning thread of awe,
I stay bright.
Not in the same way,
not like a sparkler,
quick and loud,
but steady,
like the last candle
at the end of the night,
still burning
because it remembers
how much it once loved the dark.
And maybe that’s what growing up is,
not forgetting wonder,
but carrying its ashes
in your pocket,
so when the wind blows cold,
you still feel warm.

Smile
The world, is full of dubious things, dishonor
Painful interactions, self-interested desires
Why good? Everything perish, sparkler life
It always ends the lives, and life, says bye
People’s daily affairs were blown so away
by the wind, the anger and hatred remained
Stayed, pain is smoking in the pan of life
No more pain, no more suffering; be life
This is my smile
This world is cruel
Dead
Living
The smile

It starts with a hum,
a thread unspooling through silence -
soft, sure, and annoyingly insistent,
like the world is whispering
secrets it’s dared me to misunderstand.
The first echo hits,
ricocheting off the walls,
and suddenly this isn’t just a room -
it’s a kaleidoscope of sound,
a ripple of moments reborn,
sharper, louder,
more alive than their beginnings.
Your laugh?
A sparkler snapping against dusk.
My words?
Half-forgotten confetti,
colouring the corners where truth hides.
Truth, after all, is always shy
until you catch it staring back.
Reality twists,
shuffles its cards,
pulls an ace out of its sleeve,
then smirks like it planned this all along.
The echo rewrites everything -
makes shadows dance like they’ve known the steps forever,
makes silence flirt like it’s in control,
but you know it’s just guessing too.
And when it fades?
It doesn’t leave us empty -
it leaves us cradling shapes
we can’t quite name yet,
hands full of questions
that glow like lanterns -
flickering, daring us to follow,
only to vanish when we get too close.
We laugh anyway,
lost in the dark,
as if it was the plan all along.

keeper of the house,
the toilet sparkler,
the bowl pristine
inside and out ready
to be esteemed.
the sink’s polished white,
the grime and dust, binned.
the shower, scoured,
rinsed, repeat.
repétér, Sam,
i’m not a slave.
‘tis an honor.

A love story in iambic tetrameter.
Don't be afraid, please have some guts,
write a poem 'bout coconuts.
Though they are big, round, and hairy
they're not so bad, not so scary.
The water's healthy, keeps you well,
just gotta suck it out the shell.
Go have a party, celebrate,
then use one to set up a date.
Send a long drink to a fella,
with a sparkler and umbrella.
Watch him sip nectar through that straw,
lovers, not friends, strangers no more.
Use the meat to make a curry
a tasty dish made in a hurry;
shrimp, or mutton, or fish or goat
so, so, good, it'll float his boat.
In fact, prepare it for your date
the perfect dish, he'll think you're great.
He knows for him you'll go through hell
to get the flesh out of the shell.
Your food's not dull, no spaghetti,
open nuts with your machete.
Don't even have to make a move
your intense love for him to prove.
Pretty quickly, no ifs, no buts,
he'll propose. He loves coconuts!

"The Expected"
The writing was on the wall
the eraser like a sparkler
annihilated every naysayer
words not required
for such a blind date
He da main player
records kept
for reviewing later

Our backyard
Whirlwind of summer firefly
Embers
Stirs up
From the long graves of grass
By the sprawling brooms of July 4th fireworks
Booming distant in the furled sky
Up high
The fire flies swirl to tree tops
Breadcrumb stars for swooping bats
Too many blinks to be gulped whole
Let it go
Paths split
Thunder fades to echoes
Consciousness is everywhere
So plentiful
Our heads tilt
Broken from their podiums
Like vandalized statues
Knees cracked ribs lanced
Still upright in the gallery of this summer
My wife and I
Hands freed from our marble robes
Hold together a single sparkler
Gaze to you
Private
Quiet
Uncertain future.

Devotion Poem - Our Dance (For Jim)
You are the first and last poems
God wrote for me.
You are the sparkler
I found flaming sun yellow between
The sprigs of early green grass,
Before the shoveled piles of February
Snow had melted away
Their last signs of winter.
You came unexpectedly,
Beyond probability, carting too
Much physics homework for your
Left-brained studies, and
Declaring, “I don’t dance for anyone.”
Emphatic. Like an evergreen.
But I had seen trees dance, just as I thought
I might go on dancing if I knew you.
Then you fell silent, telling your life to me
With your smile, while your eyes glanced
Through space dismissing time, sparkling
A reach to my heart for a continuous dance…I
Have never stopped my wonder, or my own
Silent joy surpassing the physics of falling
Through dimensions into your heart.

The brave man or woman, like sunshine, speaks his/her truth.
The get-a-alongs, say nothing new, afraid to rock the boat.
It takes all kinds to make the world work.
I’d like much more courage, than seeing others going through life
with a insensitive smirk.
I cannot plant the love of being a sparkler for life in anyone’s heart.
More unwilling to love you, and with ice cold hearts, soon depart!

A sparkler in the night
A silver stick of stardust
Sparkling with flashing light
With a dash of delight.
A silver stick of stardust
Coloured flowers Ignite
With a dash of delight.
Rotating bursts of light
Coloured flowers Ignite
Sparkling with flashing light
Rotating bursts of light
A sparkler in the night.

Two hearts met:
“firecrackers,” they said,
nearly six months apart,
‘works right from the start.
like rockets, their feet
shot off from the ground,
the sound most spectacular
a feat fated
for inextricable hearts.
Catherine wheels
connected for life, with
sparkler hands,
and of course,
she labored
with their firstborn
on Labor Day
and their youngest
inclined to kiss Christmas.

Winter snow came in with the restless wind
Falling from the dim night undisciplined
Lazily swirling fine lace.
Swept in by its downy grace
To the earth below like so sparkler twinned.
Ringing in the New Year as glasses raise.
A toast to new beginnings with fresh ways.
Keeping the hand gloved, out of
Cookie jars enticing love,
Sex-craze promises make those good old days.
