Awakening - not my forte per se,
With a new dawn perspective rather grey,
Lolling in bed I stretch and yawn until
Coffee aroma nibbles my nostril.
The mere thought of it stirs my core to rise,
The first sip opens up my droopy eyes,
Half through the cup my bowel goes wide awake,
My zest for life skyrockets, give or take.
On high alert I run round and about,
Achieve, accomplish and excel, no doubt.
Yet by noontime adrenaline I lack -
Need more of caffeine to bounce right back.
Cup on cup daily cravings satisfied,
Tossing and turning all night, the dread side!
By morning yet again the eyes tight shut
Til coffee scent tickles my nostril BUT
Sadly, in golden age I took to tea -
Temperament cooled down, caffeine free.

beyond reasonable doubts
behind rabid regrets
beneath a bleeding world
below bombing cyclones
between raging atmospheric rivers
I slide around in a pit of digital snakes
I track my disintegrating limbs
I observe flashing lights rushing to disasters
I ruminate over lost causes
I persevere without purpose
the End is neighing
the horses are noisy
the noise is hoarse
the sky is raging
the rage skyrockets
This too shall pass
This too shall become gas

Like diamonds into jet inlaid,
Ethereal fireworks displays,
Skyrockets, shooting stars, cascade,
With crystal fountains, rainbow rays.
Ethereal fireworks displays.
Florescent flames that interlace.
With crystal fountains, rainbow rays,
Which sparkle in night-times embrace.
Florescent flames that interlace.
Skyrockets, shooting stars, cascade,
Which sparkle in night-times embrace,
Like diamonds into jet inlaid.

She dances alone on New Year's Eve.
I watch her as I wait for skyrockets to burst
Against the starry sky in colorful obliteration,
While my breath hangs in frosty plumes for midnight.
Framed in a picture window she dances,
With forgotten drapes left open to me.
Around her the powder blue nightgown whirls,
Eyes closed, arms raised in supplication
She gains a momentary sense of youth
As in silence she seems to laugh.
Infected, her joyous moment fills me,
I'm swept along as this snapshot transforms, unfurls,
From two people solitary, untouched,
Into a lifeline transcending the truth
For a future when reflections of the past
Shine upon the present with a glow of harmony.
While my breath hangs in frosty plumes for midnight
She falls from her façade, reclaims my crutch and
With a smile sad, fading like her momentary youth,
She turns out the lights, and leaves me alone to dance
Alone.

Short Arms Limerick
By Tom Wright
10-5-2019
I had a best friend facing two court dockets,
Judge said pay your fines or trouble skyrockets.
Then it came to light,
This man wasn’t tight,
“He just had short arms and deep pockets”

Ascending from a fertile earth
The graceful Willow flaunts it's birth
Toward the sky it's branches rise
Like skyrockets in disguise
Then bursting with a rockets flare
Creating star bursts in the air,
They gently fall back toward the ground
And weep without a sound
Bob Quigley
Sept 30, 2011
Dedicated to Andrea Dietrich who, if she were a tree, would like to be a willow.

Buoyant on the North west winds;
Shredded clouds expose a half moon eye.
An eye that stares cautiously at
The hyphens of cars below.
Stratus sunsets trace the highway,
That leads to my refuge,
and shields me from the voyeur and the oncoming night.
I sit upright against unforgiving vinyl,
on the back of a bus that rebounds daily,
between New York City and my nightly abode.
I watch the cirrus race the Greyhound
and the Mustangs running in packs of three.
A spyglass has formed within a white nimbus,
an oval window into the crowded heavens.
The clotheslines of the Gods turn to skyrockets,
Shooting masterful projections upward,
Now, composed as arrows that hasten
An antelopes final good night.
Clouds drift away without shadow or fault.
The clouds, the clouds
I alone with my burden,
Where do they go?

Blended with fragrances
And the joyful carols,
The con games of children
Looking for gifts full of fun.
Kris Kringle’s cock-and-bull
Make them rosy and lull.
Adorned houses with odorous candles
Christmas tree ornamented with red ribbons and jingles
Marzipans fruitcakes and roasted chickens
Caramel cookies and plenteous chocolates,
The night illuminated
With the dance of the December souls
Gilding the lily with
Buoy up Wine and Champagne glasses.
Family gatherings and paisanos schmooze,
Couples moonlit winter-warmth savor
And the striplings night lammed booze,
Queued brewpubs and bopping discos –
The night illuminated
With the dance of the December souls
Gilding the lily with
Few ill-famed shmoes.
The Dance of the December Souls
Flageolet till New Year’s Eve,
The night at mid, lightened
By the skyrockets –
Gilding the lily with
Full-of-the-moon brightened.
Blended with resolutions and
Hugs and kisses,
Greetings followed
By myriad of wishes.
Clock ticked with few yesterday’s memories
Tears backed up by today’s beginning.
