Willows

Ascending from a fertile earth The graceful Willow flaunts it's birth Toward the sky it's branches rise Like skyrockets in disguise Then bursting with a rockets flare Creating star bursts in the air, They gently fall back toward the ground And weep without a sound
Bob Quigley Sept 30, 2011 Dedicated to Andrea Dietrich who, if she were a tree, would like to be a willow.

Andrea told me once that if she were to be a tree, she would like to be a willow. So, when I wrote the poem, I dedicated it to her

Love the imagery in this, Bob. Thank you for your congrats and comments on my poems, especially "A Lovely Dream". I can't believe I got the break ofday and setting sun mixed up like that. I'm so embarrassed. Thank you for pointing it out to me. Now I need to fix it. Kim

I'm not given to criticism since I make enough mistakes of my own Kim. I'm just glad I didn't offend you with my comments.

The weeping willow of course has a deep taproot and will always find sustenance . It is not only what is shown on the surface but also what lies underneath that determines beauty. I think you hit the nail on the head in this dedication. well written Bob....cheers Margaret

A magnificent description of willows, Bob. There were weeping willows in my yard when I was growing up. We used to play hide and seek among the veils created by their branches. Beautiful dedication to Souper Andrea. I think I would like to be a magnolia or a redwood if I were a tree, but there are so many beautiful varieties. Very, very nice, Bob. Love, Carolyn

oh, my goodness, Bob. Kash drew my attention to come here. You have brought a bright spot in my life today. My husband was fired from his job just this morning, and I am truly the weeping willow today, not the one rising to the sky. The last line must have been prophetic!! In Celtic astrology, willow is my tree (for the melancholy me). This shall go to my faves. It's beautiful, Bob. Thank you so much. Luv,Andrea
