Chalk It

to bad timing
again
as I watch you
squirm
within my flaring
presence
like a patient
wincing
at the sight of
another
needle primed to
jab.

The Lioness Lies In Wait

They quietly sneak into the kitchen, the man and the dog.

Wincing with each bitty bit of a touch of a tech of any kind of sound.

Knowing the Lioness is waiting, but where? And what is she capable of?

Tooth Nasher

Ogden Nash begets the Nasher
Humored couplets somewhat brasher

Seems these rhymes are wrenched in nature
Clenched, this nomenclature impure

Odd end Ogden, gnashing nashers,
Hence the wincing grimace assures

Machines of Fall

Afternoon autumn
Our neighborhood goes crazy
Like living in a dentist’s office

Drilling sucking blowing
Whining wincing scraping

Gurgle

My head tilted back
With a book on my chest
Mouth wide open
Staring into the glare of the final high sun.

Quarterly Report - 2020

The world is waiting
  waiting and watching
watching and wincing
  wincing and wounded

The world is weakening
  weakening and wilting
wilting and waning
  waning and withered

The world is whimpering
  whimpering and weeping
weeping and waylaid
  waylaid and whipsawed

Recycled Treasure

My heart has accepted every piece of furniture
you have brought in and hoarded, polished and stored,
for show or hidden in the attic of cerebral storage.

Cobwebs draped the entrances I walked through
without wincing, chasing extinguishing light…
gold tarnishing possibilities that I found invaluable.

City Life

The lights changing
Cars racing
Salvation army bells ringing

Shoppers buying
Children crying
Sales people convincing
Customers wincing

Honking horns
Life is a thorn
Shrinking income
Angry and confused
Is this person I should become?

Constant stress
Wish I was blessed
Disappointments chronic
Looking to have a tonic

Golden

I wish that you felt the wincing pain you put me through.
I wish you cleaned my sheets and floors after the blood you caused me.
I wish you paid my phone bills from texting begging you for answers.
I wish you had to undress everyday and see scars covering your body, like I do.
I wish you had to watch me live my life perfectly fine.
I wish you were the one who broke into pieces, not me.

What Goes On In the Car

Crushingly tired driving down the freeway,
other cars take the fast lane past me,
light blinds me through my dirty windshield
and the wireless distracts me from the road.
Dragging my wonder to an angry hour ago...

A sedan nearly sends me off the side and
needlessly I slam on my brakes before he weaves.
Shock subsides and security builds
in knowing my needs were watched while
I was not wincing through my dirty windshield.

Waiting So Long

Here I am on the phone
Wincing and flinching
Put forever on hold
Listening to old music
That’s oh so loud
Feeling like an elevator
About to explode
Banging piano, is Liberace back?
I think my head is about to crack
Waiting, returning and waiting again
My stares zooming out into oblivion
My head is spinning, my shoulders hurt
But I can’t hang up, I’m so inert
I fear I’ll be rude and spitefully curt
Here I am on the phone.

Oceanic Encounters of a Pinching Kind

Swimming in the ocean
       a wincing couple pinches
     Little creature on my leg
not more than six or seven inches

I looked again, to my surprise
       Hello! - a trilobite!
Two pincers jutting from its head
       tiny, fearsome sight

I scolded it: 'You are extinct'
'Now go away and I won't tell
You'll get to live another day.'

He stayed... So, I swatted him
       to prehistoric hell ~
