Delicate as daisies but prettier.
Lavender iris towered above meadow.
Grass more humbled than intimidated.
Violets stretched their necks to see the queen....

Rabbits Sad Tale
Once upon a time in a land far far away,
A family of rabbits happily did play.
The sun shone down o'er fields so green,
The mountains towered up high.
Until the hunter caught them all,
And turned them into pie....

Aye
I've seen the stones;
the sphinx's heart,
the tears of the sand,
the touch of the wind,
the taste of the silence,
the plenty of the vastness
- all, though, existed
without rhyme or reason
for as the shimmering firmament itself,
you towered over me....

I Fell In Love In New York
I had to shoot my head up to see the top of his
He towered over me

He did not speak much
but he was never quiet

I often got lost in him
and all the adventure he offered

On the way to his home
I knew I only needed a one way ticket

His eyes gleamed throughout the night
for he did not sleep...

Amazed
I stand amazed...,
Watching,
Looking at you;
Can't you see me..
Behind those trees of tired
gaze,
Facing the high towered
edifice-
Having its abode in the land
suffused with evil?
Am amazed..
Don't ask me why,
Share not in my amazement
either...
I would rather spend it alone.
But ask yourself if you are not
worth this amazement...
And I will let you share my
cup of grief over evil....

Dream From Delayed Check
I dream another
dark towered city
that masks the sky, glistens
like diamonds in moisture
and loves the rain at night.

With my muddy eyes,
I grope, chilled,
wish for familiar warm
small spaces alone.

I dream the pension-granter
decides it's time for me to die.
My muddy mind races through that
looking for ways to combat the terror.
Bound to happen sometime I dream,
considering painful options....

Premium Member badgers spy the baby muskrats
Badgers were planning a picnic extraordinaire!
Red Jell-O mold towered high in the spring air.
Shall I put a cherry on top? Asked persnickety Claire.
Why not? Said another. Baby muskrats are here.

Where is your mama? Asked Mrs. Badger then.
The babies giggled and rolled and hung down a chin.
I hope she is safe, Mrs. Badger told her husband man.
If not, we have three more orphans to join our little band....

Ogre
His voice like thunder, booming out his threats,
the stamping ogre towered, broad and square;
the trembling, sobbing woman prayed and begged -
I saw no pity in the monster's glare...
and hid. A knight, afraid of fighting fiends!
Ashamed, I rushed at him, without a care.
The giant, nostrils flared, took off at speed,
returning to his castle in the air.

Premium Member Tall and Humble
Larger than life
Wielding power
Like a club
Standing for justice
He towered strong
And righteous
Protecting the meek
And oppressed
A gentle soul
Knowing when
Like a lion
To growl
There at the pearly gates
Humble but standing
Tall and forthright
Ready to meet His Maker

The City
© 2010 (Jim Sularz)

Walked a crooked road, steep and winding,
over shrouded hills by the bay.
Shattered buildings rose from ashes,
street cars clang their bells, this day.

Towered bridges span an island,
steel ships beneath their reach.
Time stuck fast to tell a tale,
when earth rippled through a Golden Gate.

Broken lives in long remembrance,
the kites are flying high.
It’s been decades since that monster hit,
and The City, still whirls away......

Candle

I walked on soft pine needles
When the cool breeze touched my face.
The last single leaves were falling, twirling,
In the air all around me.
Even the shadows danced in the street.
I took a breath of patience, given to me.
Tall white birch trees towered above.
Slender in the sun so bright.
I think of the last candle I lit.
Did I put it out or did it just fade?
Or was it both of us burning bright
Until it went out in the dark of the night?

The Bird
Mom looked out the window
at the bright sun. From where she sat
on her front porch couch,
the world outside
looked cold,
the kind of cold that
breaks wood and snaps utility wires. Suddenly a bird
dropped down,
she supposed from the tree that towered over the front of the house,
and sat
on the outside window sill.
She caught eyes with the little, black thing and asked it,
"Why am I so lonely?"

But the bird
flew away after only a few seconds,
certainly not enough time to
answer....
