HEART GENTLE EYE MINDFUL
Keep heart gentle, yet eye mindful
With passion hovering at the edge
There’s a time and place for both
Rarely twinned, but each required
Balance is kept with a critical view
Fire and flame for tempering steel
Yet also used to soften and anneal
As it reaches the appropriate hue
But always aware of getting mired
And prematurely taking that oath
Or when teetering up on the ledge
Keep heart gentle, yet eye mindful
Age and circumstance conspire
As the will waffles
Beneath the weight
Of the unanticipated
Present
A gift
They called it
This aging thing
A crumpled box
Found in the dark corner
Of forgetfulness
The softening
Of the delicious
Into the bruised torment
Of a long-forgotten season
And yet
The core contains it all
Accepts the circumstance
Defies the conspirator
Knowing that age
Is but time’s tempering tool
cooling its perfection
A droplet or two surprises your face,
Misty, liquid-like lace...
Early Spring shower, heavenly dew,
Softens the earth, revives anew.
Machine-gun bullets tempering a roof,
Tempest's reproof...
Torrents of memory cascading down,
Drainpipes alive, gushing sound.
Trigger for sky-werks of lightning and thunder:
Prelude to awe and wonder.
Heart flutter hopes
like wind scattered leaves
tangled in dream twigs
By breezy adversity
Clinging and clutching to branches of memory
of yesterday's sunshine in torrents today
Glimmers so golden they flicker so faerie
As dream dazzled tears yet drip in dismay
Tempering splashes of minor discomfort
Mocking the mind games while three moves ahead
What will it matter when every thing's dead
Ride with the flow living the now
In a present so tense it's teaching you how
Every one hundred years or so,
enters a flower graced with golden glow.
A quilted warmth- unbending light,
halo tempering the blackest nights.
Blessed with precious- magic quill,
wisdom prevails in her patina krill.
A muse whom skirted war and garnished peace,
traversed angry ocean to serene stream.
Both drum and harp strings in her voice,
at the pinnacle of your life we rejoice.
Someday you'll waltz with saint and angel,
every flit of your wings an arching rainbow.
