Premium Member A Warm Blooded Snow Woman
O wintery flake, you’ve not kept me warm.
Your passion promised to never alarm.

         Outside, I’m not sold.
         My briefs rather cold.

In my frozen breast, swaths of ice free-form.

Premium Member The Way Women Dress
The brazen way some women dress,
I swear they’re in need of a redress.
With swaths of fresh skin exposed
decency demands they wear more clothes.
Advocates for women’s rights (men mostly)
claim a redress would be far too costly.
And at a time when a women’s wages
are below that of men’s, the advantages
of less clothes makes sound economic sense....

Premium Member Waiting's Knife
…waiting’s knife
slices time in broader swaths
stacking jagged moments
chaffing minutes raw, in existential unease
…one second snags the next
                       …the knife dulls
moments fray and shred
tomorrow folds today; time’s teeth - rounded
memories meld a transcendent balm
deeply rubbed by fading voices

a hospice hallway dims…
one light - grows brighter...

Swaths of Death
Violent swaths of death,
      a ghastly sight.
Blood-soaked soil, a
      canvas of blight.
Screams of agony pierce
      the nights veil,
Echoes of honor, a
       mournful tale.

Deaths visage, haunting
        scene to behold,
Their last breaths, a
         story untold.
Gruesome remains, a
          twisted art, of
 mans cruelty, a world
           torn apart....

No-See-Um Sway
Lulled by the no–see-um’s song
the grasses and I are yawning
tilting our heads
in the breezes falling off the day
as if cocooned in imagined protection beneath
a raccoon mama’s chin
we sway…we sway…we sway the night to day …away

and above us the grasshopper's song floats
in swaths across the lavender universe (13.8 billion lightyears to bring to you)
a light house sways across the gray
trying to say...

I love you...

Premium Member Perspective
Today I stopped along a roadside path,
Drawn to swaths of gold and blue.
A calliope of yellow mustard, with hues
Of purple vinca, and wild sweetpeas too.

Harsh winter rains lay this hillside bare
But nature’s will the landscape overcame.
No artist’s brush could best this scene
This painting with a grass-green frame.

My burdened heart beat with hope anew,
I felt the dark and troubled day recede.
Perspective gripped my tired soul,
And gave peace to a heart in need....
