Stretchy Neck
Behold the neck of a giraffe
Long enough to make you laugh
Can stretch over the fence in zoo
To find munchy leaves to chew
Of it's length I'm not even half!...

Romani Flies
Clean and minty
Plump pink or receding
Capped, implanted, or real
A whistle through gaps
Metal brackets and stretchy rubber bands
Drool on a white cotton pillow case in the dead of night
Twitchy lies and storied gossip, save,
For a fly does not enter a closed mouth....

Ninny Nonny Noose
ninny nonny noose
with a neck inside
stretchy stretchy stretch
and the witch she died
golly, gallows in a gully
hanging hung in such a hurry
spell a spell a spell did she
with a bucket boiling full of tea
with which the witch survived
never never died
ninny nonny noose
no neck inside!

Light Verse
fashion is over the hill now
Soft t-shirts, warm flannels, easy to step into
Cozy fleece, light cotton, stretchy elastic waistbands
Comfy nightgowns, flowered pajamas, and a mumu
Retirement encourages a new way to dress
Comfort over class, coziness over chic
Fashion is over the hill now
I live in the country
The only ones who see me are my husband and my dogs...

Hurry Home
Off I flew, fist in the air
Leaving those villains unaware
Something was about to escape
From underneath my billowing cape
I have to hurry, up, up and away
I’ll return to fight another day
Gaining speed, higher heights
Thank goodness for those stretchy tights
Through the air I hurl my body
To home to go on my very own potty
Through the air I fly like a scoop
Yes, even Superman has to poop...

Baskets
Slim elegance, pencil-sharp,
dark business skirt,
pure contrasts
where the black cuts
a clear white neckline.
Stretchy pants,
wide at the beam,
rumpled fore and rear,
a clear predilection
for sweats.
The two women
enter by the same door,
both will leave
by the same door,
never noting each other.
The fuzzy store-greeter,
stacks baskets,
none of which
will have a self-image
until filled....

Nile
Down the dangling Nile
I row row row my boat
Along the curly waves
I try to weave a lock
This stretchy strip
could bind the world
down the moving Nile
I wished the crock will croak
And then the deer will dare
But when the toad just croaked
I knew the deer isn't there
I dip my thumb in Nile
My thirst just quenched at once
My heart didn’t dry again
My breath came in me so cool
What a waste to try a pool...

Ever So Sweet
My sweet baby girl is
half-awake, half-asleep.
And her toffee yawns are
stretchy as caramel.
Her cotton candy cheeks
are like pink marshmallows.
And dark chocolate curls;
adorn my baby's head.
She sports blueberry eyes
and soft licorice lips.
And her creamy face boasts
a million-dollar smile.
A confectionery
treat, she is delicious.
And gives sugared kisses;
that taste; ever so sweet....

A Lesson Learned
Hurting lower back kept me stay constantly aware
Helped take notice of tender muscles that were very painfully sore
I made an appointment to see a chiropractic doctor lady
A few cracks and presses released the pain by being a helpful remedy
Doing some back exercises helps to maintain it nice and stretchy,
Sitting with a good posture is a key to keep it fit and healthy
A worthy lesson I learned to follow while sitting down to type my poetry...

samplings that speak
of each self-image....

The Moms
I watch the moms at pre-school
In their stretchy work-out clothes
And remember I was one of them -
Or somewhat, I suppose.
My outfits weren't Lycra
And I didn't drive to school
But I did belong to what you'd call
That stay-at-home mom pool.
I wonder if I seemed to be
As confident as they.
I know inside I certainly
Did not feel quite that way.
I lived that life so long ago
But seeing them en masse
Makes me realize they have not a clue
Of what will come to pass....
