White bright
Yellow eye
Snowy owl
Tumbling in
The Arctic wind
Stiff claws
Clamping down,
Through the
Seagull's heart, again

The owl gazed upon the forest
As though the whole world was his fortress.

snowy owl
hoots at northern sky
crystal dew falling
a vole sleeps
deep in frozen ground
earthen dreams
heaven of stars
on celestial journey
night lights
wolf howls
at the snow moon
brief serenade
dreams fade
into morning sunrise
scent of fresh brew

A great snowy owl
Sat on a cupola
Looking wise
But undoubtedly thinking of mice
Who might be down under the barn
To come out to be devoured
He had flown in from the far north
So large and commanding a bird
Hundreds came daily to gape
His head swiveled
His eyes were astonishing
His silence complete

I do not know?
Snowy Owl, your feathers so white
I have always wanted to see you
I hear other kinds, hooting in the night
A pleasure it would be to see you too
I suppose one snowy winter
You will fly so quietly here to visit me
After the summer flowers wither
You will arrive with splendid beauty

Rhyme
autumn ambles slowly
shuffling through fallen leaves
dodging Winter’s kiss
crumpled pumpkins frown
sparrows await a sunrise
a barn cat stretches
seagulls battle gusts
crabs wander an empty beach
icy froth glistens
as wolves sniff the wind
cowering beneath its howl
a cold hunger waits
a lone snowy owl
shakes the frost from its feathers
in frigid silence

As day turns to night she's awaken
hunter, food provider for her brood,
Stretch, flap wings, feathers shaken,
pitch black, one thing on her mind
nocturnal rodents high protein food,
with stealth she flies, silent, streamlined,
eyes clear, professional killer, all fears
especially mice, vole, one way blood feud,
when our snowy owl silently appears.
Nocturna.

Ode
A meek Monet, a gentle Van Gogh
I may seem too nice and mild, though
The moon knows my true name
In lust I ascend to claim my prey
Goblins to gobble, dragons to slay
New blood to tempt my game
I brand the highest spruce with my mark
I am as white as the night is dark
Silent, floating prowl
As encroaching dawn takes starlight's place
Revealed beneath my human face
Soul of snowy owl.

Tail-rhyme
Great Horned Owl challenged Great Gray.
Northern Saw-whet flew away.
Snowy Owl decided to stay.
Mouse scurried, afraid he would be prey.
Northern hawk took bets that day.
Black-capped Screech thought it was gay.
Barn owl got highly into the fray.
Farmer’s gun scared us all away.
We will have a duel another day
Great Horned Owl said to Great Gray
When he said it he dropped his prey.
Juicy rabbit hopped away.

'spring forth'
called the sparrow
to the little blue jay
'come forth'
called the sparrow
to the master cardinal
'fly forth'
called the sparrow
to the fowl population
'twitter tworth'
called the sparrow
to the big snowy owl
'flitter forth'
called the sparrow
to the little pond of ducks
'see this dwarf?'
asked the sparrow
to the little crowd of friends
'of course'
said the sparrow
'he flew forth first'

I do not know?
Snow as gentle as cotton growing in a field
New and freshly fallen snow
Optically exquisite and clean
Wise as the snowy owl
Flakes of white, six points to a snowflake
Loved and liked by humanity, on a scenic winter day
A sunny day melts the snowflakes
Kind views like a winter postcard
Every pedestrian careful on the walkways
Scenic and serene, God's friendship personified

Acrostic
When the sun sets in the western sky
And night descends upon the land
The snowy owl awakes from his rest
And in the forest seeks a dinner guest
This nocturnal hunter sits and waits
With one graceful swoop from it's branch
Appears like a white ghost
Swiftly and silently gets it's prey
Any movements noticed
In one swoop catches it's meal.
