Ps Souper Bowl
Join me in the Souper Bowl
We'll meet all our poetry friends
It's time again for the quarterly game
Now, let's see who wins
Good luck to all the poets
From expert, to beginner
Just to know I was considered
Makes me feel like a winner
We have all written our best
Some sad, some funny
Now it's up to the judges
To decide who gets the money...

Gentle Thoughts
A flowing line
A gentle thought
A sweet memory
Of loving you
Time has past
It was long ago
Yet these things
Still stir me
Still I sigh
And I long
For your touch
To feel again
Long ago
Still it is sweet
Yes these things
Still stir me
Shouting in the Wind, 2018, from this book;
The poem 'Gentle Thoughts' used in the Fall 2017 issue of Poetry Quarterly,...

She Spoke
She Spoke
by Michael R. Burch
for Beth
She spoke
and her words
were like a ringing echo dying
or like smoke
rising and drifting
while the earth below is spinning.
She awoke
with a cry
from a dream that had no ending,
without hope
or strength to rise,
into hopelessness descending.
And an ache
in her heart
toward that dream, retreating,
left a wake
of small waves
in circles never completing.

Remembrance
Remembrance
by Michael R. Burch
Remembrance like a river rises;
the rain of recollection falls;
vague memories, like vines, entangled,
cling to Time's collapsing walls.
The past is like a distant mist,
the future like a far-off haze,
the present half-distinct an hour
before it blurs with unseen days.

Trickle Down Effect
Upper management market rushed decision:
Cold rational cost/risk measurement —
Downsizing is the capital flow chart right way to go
Middle management under extreme personnel loss liquidity:
Short wigs facing contraction strategy harassment,
skirt the raised profit projected pressure of the actuary table
Lower management stem the tide of the pink-slip discharge:
HR higher productivity quarterly report assessment ...
makes promotion portfolio much more dividend valuable...

The Leveler
The Leveler
by Michael R. Burch
The nature of Nature
is bitter survival
from Winter’s bleak fury
till Spring’s brief revival.
The weak implore Fate;
bold men ravish, dishevel her . . .
till both are cut down
by mere ticks of the Leveler.
Published by The Lyric, Tucumcari Literary Review, Romantics Quarterly and The Aurorean. Keywords/Tags: nature, survival, bitter, winter, spring, seasons, fate, weak, bold, universe, time, levels, leveler, red in tooth and claw, harsh, hardship...
