Light the Night

Painting color-stars, Dancing embers pop in air; Fireworks in the skies. Glitter drifts on black velvet; Forming giant color wheels.

Pizzicato

Where’s my loyal confidant,
If love recovers again?
This emptiness of heart,
Fulfills to be a single friend;

The jargon on my noggin,
What’s her color, favorite?
Pop in, lightly salted;
I am satisfied with –

A Name On a List

a registered owner
a name on a list
each time I take aim
or pop in the clip
I'm waiting for the clatter
as they break down my door
after circumventing
our second amendment
surrender your firearm
your cache of ammo
decease and desist
this awesome pleasure

Caught Cold

Grackles snap at the thin snow
seeking frozen worms.
Balloons of light pop in a chill sky.
A marmalade cat sneaks the hedgerow
fur low in the snow whiskers sparkling.
Hawk cries grab our attention
high up we are spotted, some targeted.
Grackles, cat, and the shadow of my coat
scatter sideways sketching frost-ghosts
on warm breaths.

Teacher Group Text

We have a teacher group text at school
In the summer I like to pop in and say something
I usually get fifteen hearts and thumbs up
In about twenty minutes

Today I said “Who else is ready for school to start?”
It is June 17th. We have been home since May 27th.
Only two teachers texted back. NO!
There were no hearts and no thumbs ups.

I Do

Everytime I think about you,
there's always these two words
that pop in my head,
I do.
When I ask you if
your love is true,
you always say
I do.
When someone asks me
If I've got a true boyfriend
I always say
I do.
When you leave me,
I always want you back
and say
I do.
Everytime someone asks
If I miss you,
I always say
I do.

Her Sun Won'T Go Down

The most random thoughts can pop in your head -
like, after it’s down, does the sun go to bed?

This must be a problem when birthing new stars.
Can’t sing ‘em to sleep; they ignite the guitars.

Their mom must be frazzled, not getting much sleep,
so I thought for a moment, and I thought pretty deep.

I’ve got a new venture that seems pretty sweet;
to get suns to bed, you need fireproof sheets.

Together We Die

Madness fills my mind.
Rabid thoughts pop in and out;
loneliness, longing
fatherless child, I.
Father, she, his?, mine, mine!

Madness flares red-caped
sorrow chases a cats tail.
My one child knows not.
Not my brothers child, mine
Madness pinwheels razor blades.

Suffering I flee…….
my girl I clutch to only me,
from the bridge we dive
she and I together die.
Father? she, He, mine, MINE!

*Something Wicked Came.

Pretend

let's drive out in the desert
it's such a beautiful night
open up the moon-roof
and bathe in lunar light

a million stars are overhead
let's pop in a slow cd
talk about some silly things
while you hold hands with me

let's pretend that we are teens
kiss and touch and love
try not to get caught
by a roving patrol car

let's recreate some magic
it's such a beautiful night
let's drive out in the desert
let our fantasies run wild

Hopes Float

Like bubbles blown
From the mouth of a child
Our hopes float before us
Dancing out of reach

We follow them through the yard
Feeling cool grass underfoot
Eyes focused on catching
Those illusive orbs

Some fall to the ground and burst
Some caught in strong winds pop in air
Others continue to soar
Up and out of sight

Those are the hopes
Our hearts want to follow
Impossible, improbable, impractical
Our hearts soar with them anyway

May

Showers gag the trees, May shuttles pleats in the sky. There are towel-drying winds. Parks grow soggy with small dogs; May is an old man riding a bike backwards. It is oil for the broken engine in the barn. Wetness folds this way and that. We see nestlings in reservoirs of dew. Bubbles pop in puddles, could it be new Life? Could it be May, hands in its pockets like a small boy, whistling and waiting for something green and tufted to happen?

Baby Girl

baby girl, is it all worth the time spent moping around?
waiting for his number to pop in your phone,
you’d sooner drown
in the tears slipping down your face.

i don’t want to see you fall from grace
and don’t want you waiting around
just for him to replace
every moment you both shared.

if you left would he have cared?
im not sure about what you should do
but you gotta stay if this love is true
im not sure what you should do
but don’t wait around just cuz he wants you to.
