parrying street space invaders
with restive vinegar smiles
their incessant bip bip bip
countering my spilling step

us, at opposite ends
past coffee shops
past drug stores, calling
to each other in the rain

. . . gargoyle heads
. . . busy bullets
. . . grotesque faces
. . . level boss

and soon gum concrete
turns to gentle ambient wood
back where I left you
barking...
