Mind Mountains
Gradually gradients level out. After a lifetime of hill climbing the body explains to us that the far side can be explored from the near fireside with a pipe and a whisky close at hand.

Swimming both ways - fears few enough
That youth crossed often in rapture,
Far side bank's rushes, secret home
Serenity in seclusion.

Thoughts of decades past stall upon instant
And I wonder if I could do it now.

Poem 19
In your eyes

I see a different light

Maybe another you

Perhaps something about you

I see a certain you

A far side of you

The best side of you

And that's all I can see

Of you from inside out

Outside in...

A Brain Awakes
A brain awakes and sheds five hundred pounds of sky. The brain dreams- it opens a door walks through it, grinds beans, percolates coffee. It realizes it is way too early. Now it may or may not slip back into a tar pit on the far side of the moon.

Anniversaries and Such
Circled days hide their faces on the far side of the fridge. Dates and reminders clog the cyclic notches on my prayer wheel. Calendar dreams wake up far too late. Ducks fly across a fridge magnet. I hear the distant quacking of a missed anniversary disappearing over a dimming horizon.

I Still Do Dread This Air
I do dread this air
Blown from the far side
of despair
With that still hearth
Rusting unburnished
Among those barren crags
Never to shine use after use
Living life to the lees
Though much is taken
Though many abide
Whose mere margin fades
While that great world
grows weak and old
I still do dread this air......

Cracked Clay Cup
A little bit awkward, little bit odd,
little bit shoddy, obviously flawed.

But it’s colorful, oh so cheerful bright,
a welcome relief after a long night.

It can’t be full, who cares if it’s emptied.
There’s not a more upbeat cup, guaranteed.

Just don’t try to drink tea from the far side;
it spilled and burned anyone who has tried....

Anniversaries and Such
It is time for the circled days
to hide their faces
on the far side of the fridge.

Dates and red letter reminders
clog the cyclic notches
on my prayer wheel.

The calendar dreams
always waking up too late

I recall how fish in a bowl
forget every seven seconds.

It helps, but date sharks
still hunt me down
when I mess up....

Blueberry Hill
Poem about Sudbury, Ontario, Canada

Where's Blueberry Hill?
Is it north; is it west?
All the people are talking
and they say it's the best.

Little fingers are picking.
All the children bent down
filling baskets with berries
on the far side of town.

So; where are these berries
I see marked on the map.
In this place called a district
of the Minnow Lake gap....

Ohio River At Sunset
lights flicker on the far side
as Kentucky folds its dark robes

a barge nudges
the river into dusk

bundles of clouds kindle

a shimmering pause

the river opens its body
to swallow the sun

knee deep in shadow
a heron yawps

silver fish ripple through
shoaling branches

here on a crooked pier
spawning stars surface
from the milky eyes
of the recently drowned...

Anniversaries
Red letter days
give birth to each other
like pregnant goldfish.

Once again
the red circled hides its face
on the far side of the fridge.

Dates clog the cyclic notches
on my prayer wheel of anniversaries.

I hear an untimely cuckoo
in every paper window.

I need buttoned down numbers
that don't skid off
the expressway of things to remember
every time I see a squirrel....

Bio
Daniel
overweight, underpaid, insomniac, and out-of-date...
unbiasedly proud father of Raiden and Anika Mei...
a lover of language, of forests, of night...
who feels (at turns) lucid, alone and alive...
who fears hopelessness, boredom and hell...
who'd love to see th'aurora, the earth from the moon and the far side of ninety...
resident of the "blackbird's roost" in "the origin of the sun"...

An Open Window
Smell the sweet aroma of roses,
red in colour bright and gay.
Looking out to the far side,
the young children play.

The tall oak tree leaves flutter,
underneath acorn fallen.
Brown nuggets with silly hats,
quickly pick them up before they are stolen.

Hear the birds talk to each other,
singing lovingly words silent.
Gliding through the air,
a sudden swoop down gone an act of violence....

Far Side Sound Off
Eight men
One objective
Countouts holds the combat
In penalty for 2 minutes
Disqualification holds the
Combatants for 4 minutes
( they gotta get it in)
Mid way through four men
Will team for one score
That team to them divide
( they say it's the same song
Just the harmony is different)
Two teams no DQ
Two teams no countout
Team Challenge
Last two men
Winner takes all
Bankday Brawl
Trophy Series
Tally up the scores....

Far Side of Moonbeams
I adore you on the far side

of tranquil moonbeams &

admiration's transcendence,

'tween hard knocks & wonder

amidst breath's appreciation,

misfortunes' adversity naught to

e'er lessen breadth of affection,

dimensions beyond unfathomable

depths of reverent inclinations,

tenderness surpassing worldly feats

within endearments' heartprint,

there could be no greater love than

a grateful mother for her child...

The Far Side of Fame
As a captain of slave ships, raw pain he thought to ease;
yet, time after time, clouds filled his skies with fear and dread.
“God laughed at my calamity,” he would say later when he found
the bow that bridges heaven and seeks a God to please.

Far Side of the Hill
There's only one way to find out
how the grass tastes
on the far side of the hill.

I have an unshakable believe that it IS sweet
but only if you choose the right hill and the right way to get there.
But faith is unshakable.

Therefore I ride on, without retreat,
and go to find the grass that's sweet.
Though I must leave the 99 in the open country.
Just for a time.
Or perhaps for a time and half a time.
Who can say.
So I'll let Him tell you....

Premium Member Glimpses of the Past
Occasionally I look at time departed,
And nearly always with a rueful eye.
Calling back days of steps uncharted,
Traipsing through days, querying why?

Times that found my heart hardened,
Ahead of God setting my domain afire.
Prior to my psyche becoming burdened,
I was merely a sinner reposed in mire.

But something happened in my life,
On the far side of minds forgetting.
Cancer and the Master Surgeon's knife,
Tutored me about another blood letting....

Follow the Rainbow

Let the raindrops
fall
on your eyes

So that your tears
can be
cleansed from the sky

To wash away
all
of the sadness
inside your heart

Hold your head up high,
hope
comes from
above

Go, follow the rainbow,
to the far side
of love

Take a star journey
thru the
mirror clouds of joy

Follow the prism reflection,
to that twin soul
you been
dreaming of

Follow that beautiful rainbow,
to the forever side
of love

All Good Things
I run this mile too many times
I saw trees with evergreen leaves
I am like a bird with places to visit
Like a butterfly flying on pollen grains

Season changed I am shivering in deep ice
To the ground I fell like a fainted leaf I rusted
Tears dropped like the rain an ocean is formed
All the good things come to an end I wonder

Autumn comes leaves fall to the ground
The sun rose from the far side of east
Shining gold to a new crack of down
If I will make it right in my new home...

The Last New Poets
We are the body heat
of an endangered species,
the shattered hammer and forge
of an archaic workshop.
Gone are the rhymes and chimes,
gone all reason to be,
gone the prophet, saint or devil,
now we drive
to the far side of a town,
one we have never visited,
just to scratch upon a nameless wall.
Words confound us,
spellbound we tinker
with the Daedalian keys,
sprockets and gears
of an incalculable machine,
not seeking answers,
nor questioning why,
but only how....

 The three-stage rocket strains upward
 gathering momentum each second
Firing away on all cylinders now
gentle palm trees melt down in her wake

to the far side of Jupiter some day

 to explore rocky promontories
and sizzling-hot lakes of molten lava
