Snow leans in against the bosom of the fence,
The safety of the shade.
The sun is low and weak from winter sleep.
She will strengthen and warm in the safety
Of the earth’s hug.
Like the snow, we all cling
To the safety of our dreams....

Where will the lovely lady go
on her diurnal walk?
One child in 30 years she bore,
now they do not talk.
Supple, firm, her lithe legs are,
young men wheel and gawk.
A husband left her money, though,
a poodle, too, to walk.

Canada True North Strong and Free
Canada winters bitterly cold
Avalanches cascade down slopping hills
North side faces steep and icy
A tiny town sits beneath trees that are old
Down the mountain whose beauty kills
Although their beauty is enticing

Tough and strong
Bold but true
Where everyday
Brings something new...

**North Side**

A club opened on the north side
full of women feeling festive.
Turned up, my boys are down to ride,
A club opened on the north side.
Of all the dimes, she caught my eye.
Dior fragrance, most impressive.
A club opened on the north side,
full of women feeling festive.

So I sit upon my porch, just to get a bit of breeze,
On the north side of the house, under over-hanging trees.
I reckon there's no other fellow more content than I
In my small home in the valley, where I'll stay until I die.

This was taken out of a poem called "The Song of the Retired Farmer:
which I had entered in Poetry Soup....

Premium Member Chimp Or Crow
sitting on the deck
outback earlier today
sunny warm and cool

the north side trees cried
a loud long chimpanzee breeze
bellowing squawks shrieks

and songbirds upset
by a loud spring juvenile
letting excess air

from there a crow flew
to the trees on the south side
it began again

the chimps name is crow
one noisy beak of a bird
just like some people

fall guy actors
with the manners of a brat
with politics too

Premium Member Fettle Fetal Death Killed Road Kill Sread Out All Around Here-
a 4 lane bi-way east and west;
first come upon passing of a dead skunk;
Next comes a squirrel
and then another skunk on the north side of the lane;
just there laying on their sides dead as nails;
Now the odor so pungent;
smells of death
almost liken human, dog, or other animal remains, yet worse;
Fetal fettle dead carcasses
up the road
Lord, God almighty animalistic death's hold
Don't know if them critters were sick or poison
Something but life got a hold of em'...

Bag Lady
Bag Lady

		Chicago’s North Side

This senior citizen
whose face is Rushmore still
squats with pigeons on the steps
of the Rogers Park Masonic Temple.
She wears a shawl this snowy day
and is beneath the visor of a hunting cap
a woman who has paused along the way.
Her shopping bags, stuffed, frayed,
and each square feature of her face, confess
she speaks at best a little English.
Rested, she will rise,
a penguin on a floe,
and navigate her day.
