Beach Day
Your Tanned body,
Glittering along the Jersey Shore,
Black swim suit,
Messed up hair in photo ready state,
Ho-Joe's motor inn,
Kids,
Laughing,
Libations
What a beach day!...

Sad husband just buried wife.
     Clad in funeral glad rags;
     Seeks refuge in libations.
          Taxi called to bar

O’Leary poured the draught with finesse
O’Brien slid to the floor for some rest
passed out so quick
foam thick on his lip
Ah, the shame of an unfinished Guinness

The Vintner's Daughter
Pour me a drink of yourself,
So I can taste a part of your past.
Whoever heard of libations to a man?
Wine of the soul to slake my thirst.
Pour, fill to the brim,
Be full, then spill.
The insatiate need to be drowned overcomes me....

The Rain Maker
Sweet rain is hammering the dry ground
Dirt turning to muddy foundations
Leaves nodding their heads to the sound
Gaia smiling upon her creations
The earth with green is gowned
Eudora now pouring her libations
To Ceres, with grain is crowned
Patron, we give our adoration
The fruits of your harvest abound...

The Mariner's Toast
To all celestial siblings gathered here,
The salutations of our salvation,
Living water to all those you hold dear,
To the enemy’s minions, damnation,
Fire in the grate and meat on the table,
Libations enough to make the ark float,
And a joyous song from every gable,
Now get this communion wine down your throat!...

Earplug

If the eyes can find sleep
when the left hand in battle
hacks to bits, a right at peace

Indulges our parched earth
that can never drink her fill
of human blood libations

And the town crier never cries
at his gong's discordant tunes
with the plight of the people

Then, power is only an ear plug
wealth, a virtual reality camera
and the people, jesters at court....

And the Cows Came
(letters to my presido-elect): ii

the dregs
of the libations
enticing the gods
upon the shrines
of the uncurbed squander
of the treasuries –
o, the squander
of earth’s roots!

& the kins sigh
as the mothers cry
for the fathers lie
in the tombs
the untimely tombs
of countless days –

& the uncurbed coronations
of the cows
reached the pompous limits:
the roof of native skies!

(TO BE CONTINUED)...

Bacchus rose
joy purging
xeric throats
choking upon
libations
conflicted aims
dancing naked
fearlessly awash
escaping
inhibition’s
tyranny
loosing anger’s soul
through merriment
releasing
wingless spirits
thoughtless thoughts
unfettered
voices mumbling
wine soaked praise
to numbing’s god.

Lore
A whispered world awaits me,
Wisdom obscured is lore.
Open my eyes and I see,
Wicca buried at its core.
Where magik spells and potions,
And Hypnotic incantations,
Mix with herbal lotions,
And dancing and libations.
Rituals, rites and runes,
Proffered for enlightenment,
On dreary moor or dunes,
Partake a hidden sacrament,
To charge that inner treasure,
Infinite revelry awaits infinite pleasure.

Dry Summer
DRY SUMMER

On Harcourt Hill the summer grass is parched and desiccated
All dry and flaxen neath the beating sun, its message carried
To teachers’ throats to give a thirst, a craving unabated
For College now is designated: ‘campus dry’ and arid

But when this season’s over and the sun’s becoming mellow
And classrooms echo vacantly with words select and wise
Then, temperance repealed, with soft tones as a solo cello
Some sweet and blest libations will restore, revitalise....
