How We Won

To we stood
Knock on wood
We had a plan
In rain held hands
It was the lord above
With his love
And our bond
This is

Knock on wood
fingers crossed
don't step on cracks
don't walk under ladders

America the Great

Poisoning his body ever since she left;
right up close, yet a million miles away.
Meth-lab;
got rehab.
Wasting away in his jail cell,
he's straight to heaven, yet living in hell.
Right up close, yet a million miles away.
Knock on wood; hope he stays good.
In spite of strife, she took his life;
she was supposed to be his wife.

Never Trust

Never trust something
that seems
 too good
to be true.
There's a possibility it's
trying to
fool you.
Ever time you turn around.
A fake smile may be found.
At the moment the idea
may sound good.
The words that
have been said
might have just been
“knock on wood.”
Don't let it drive you insane.
The thoughts going on might
just be inane.

How're you doing?
  I'm doing fine
Everything good?
  Knock on wood

What's new?
  Not much
Take care
  Stay in touch

How's business?
  Never better
Come back soon
  It'll be my pleasure

What's going on?
  Same old stuff
How are things?
  Good enough

How're the kids?
  A lot of fun
Going so soon?
  Gotta run

See you later
  Have a nice day...
Thanks for shopping

Leaving the Big Town

Living under the constant shadow of steel and glass skyscrapers,
longing for sunlight and fresh air to breathe...
makes this confined spirit want to break free,
to leave the big town and find total freedom somewhere else.

Getting into a yellow taxi, the winter's chill
makes me shiver, but not as much as a perched petrel
that decides to stay and make this gloomy neighborhood his livelihood;
and while I'm thinking of warm weather, somebody please knock on wood!

Bad News Travels Fast

Bad news likes to travel fast,
Much quicker than the good
And you can’t stop it even if
You pause to knock on wood.

It’s like a snowball, growing as
It barrels down a hill,
Unstoppable and uncontrolled
As oil from a spill.

Through phone or text or face to face
The knowledge makes its rounds,
For once the news is negative
It spreads by leaps and bounds.

Technology can’t take the rap
For even in the past,
When something bad took place, that news
Would always travel fast.
