At the Friendly Neighborhood Grocery Store

How're you doing? I'm doing fine Everything good? Knock on wood What's new? Not much Take care Stay in touch How's business? Never better Come back soon It'll be my pleasure What's going on? Same old stuff How are things? Good enough How're the kids? A lot of fun Going so soon? Gotta run See you later Have a nice day... Thanks for shopping ~ Don't forget to pay!

This was fun to read and sounds like something one would actually experience while shopping. Very cool.

Thank you, Mahtab… If bread is the 'staff of life,' then conversations like these are the 'stuff.' Best wishes, Gershon

Beautifully penned, Gershon. You captured very well the depth of routine conversations. It's not surprising we don't know our neighbors' names.

You wrote … 'unsurprising'... Jesse Rowe wrote 'surprising' … No wonder I'm so confused all the time... Line, thank your encouragement and kind words. Always appreciated. :) gw

At first I thought this was a commentary on the small talk the cashiers make, but the last line has me wondering if it is perhaps a commentary on the shopper. A surprisingly thought-provoking piece.

As my wife tells me: "Anything you do halfway well is surprising, dear." … Thank you for the feedback, Jesse! Best wishes, Gershon
