Intransigence
INTRANSIGENCECapricious in opinion
Parental – High handedness
Work put in
By sentinel minions
Juggernaut enthused
Serial circumstance
Discorded use. Abstinence!
Crushed! UNDONE!
Inconsonance
I am slighted. Rebuffed!
Disinherited
Urgency brings revolution
Insurgence
Of divine retribution.
End....

Zilch
Tin Man
Stoop shouldered,
head down,
shuffling.
Just “kicking the can”
down the road.
Casting no shadow,
lost in a lie’s
intransigence,
following
the tinny sound
of an empty can.

Intransigence
Certainly a compromise
Would undermine my certainty
That my opinions
On every matter
Are wrong
I am so sure
That I am wrong about this
That there is no use
Talking about it
I am so right
About being wrong
About being right
I think my head
Is going to implode

Son
Your words fly
Like heavy rocks
And fall blindfold.
Your young intransigence
Is like a gale
Strong and without mercy.
Your absent glance
Pierces my heart
And stands by my mind.
But your smile
Redefines yourself
Your gentleness is real.
Your fight is pure
Against me, against you
Looking for answers.
Impatient you want to understand
Unmistakable you want to run
Keeping your hope as my hope....

Dramatic Monologue
Ever-Cheerful - a Tribute
Ever-cheerful and optimistic
An island of sanity midst pandemic's panic
A voice of reason in a sea of shouts
Dr. Janice Jackson, public schools CEO
Giving Chicago a leader to crow about
24/7 she's striven to better Chicago's schools
dealing with intransigence, high-handedness
an angry army of Teacher's Union hacks and fools
She's leaving next month
Can't say I blame her
May Dr. Jackson, God forever bless...

Rhyme
Intransigently Intransigent
Why is it the intransigent
find the intransigent
to be pigheaded, willful,
inflexible and pertinacious?
Engaging, as it were,
in an endless “tug-o-war”
neither side allowing
for consideration of
the fallibility of the inflexibility
of calcified recalcitrance.
Stags, horns locked,
dying on an empty stage
bleach-white bones
rattling in an unfelt wind.

Funeral Arrangements
procrastinating
tenacious
adamant to the point
of being obstinate
as if we had
all the time in the world
frozen in a standstill
fear by any other name
the time has come
to make some hard decisions
ones we’ve postponed
what will it take to persuade us
we need to get it done
we don’t want to leave
the other stranded
times will be hard enough
when the inevitable
does come
