This little sound of words know the magic of softening the hearts harder than rock and hardening the hearts softer than silk!
Naked in the shower,
Water flowing over me
As hot as I can bear;
Scalding my skin,
Masking my tears,
Drowning my cries,
Hardening my heart.
Coal
dirty, grimy
shoveling, glowing, burning
smoke, soot, heat, pressure
hardening, shining, dazzling
brilliant, beautiful
Diamond
Your coldness is like
a heavy frost
crusting the earth-
Cool, pristine
crystalline covering
delicate yet unyielding
hardening the surface-
A thin disguise
over the muddy mess
we were before
hardening presents
my own secret mind loving
enjoying the soul
~
future tense waging
and open love is not broken
broken is mind heart

I can imagine
The Mount melting into a fount
And the fount hardening into a mount
I can imagine
The earth squeezing into a ball
And the heavens rolling into a scroll
But to imagine
You out of my sight
I’ll rather die than imagine
Faith
fervent, bold
searching, hearing, obeying
Moses, David, Saul, Goliath
hardening, rebelling, questioning
lukewarm, haughty
Incredulity

Memory
becomes the reality
of all that was.
The hardening or softening of the arteries of the heart
that place where love grew or died
in the errors and missteps of our lives.
With sleep,
dreams revive
visions and images form
true false memories
putting everything to right.
Hot pancakes in the thick of things;
Wet cement hardening in the thick of things;
Hot fudge sundae chocolate sticks to ice cream;
in the thick of things;
In a combated war zone surrounded;
in the thick of things?/

I have been eating more vegetables lately
my fingernails are thickening
they were never sturdy before, but they are now
Is it the potatoes? The carrots? The corn?
Could it be the lettuce?
Or is it my age?
Do faeries meet at night and polish them with magic hardening gel?
I may never know
Desolate,prideful,terrible and sick
People have created themselves a new brick
Sinful bricks have planted a wall
Wall has brought a major fall
Pride eyes are seen every where,
Hatred is blowing and flowing no care
Hardening their heart is enjoyable for them
Staring eyes is nothing but pride in them.
When bitten by the poison of a trusted friend's betrayal, there are but two choices: let anger and bitterness flush the poison further toward your heart's hardening end, or with forgiving lips suck out the poison and spit it into a place where it can never be retrieved, thus allowing healing, growth and peace.

a hardening mangosteen
with wounded white seeds
increasing into rotten arrogance
of monstrous' velocity
sentimentality-
rises slowly to the skin
emitting cerebral poison
flavored with the sourest
and most bitter condiments
as troubled being
devours senseless hurt
sentimentality’s lava
flows drifting soul into sin

I have felt the sting
And the joy of the rain
Soaked in its confusion
Watched
As it turned cold
Bitingly cold and angry
Upon a howling wind
Frozen rivulets
Pelting the helpless
Becoming a more friendly
Soft fluffiness
Drifting into mountains
Burying all hope
Smothering
Isolated thought
Shaping the future
Of a sunrise
Hardening the resolve
Of life
During enduring winter rain
the small bird cheeping
his only wish of certain warmth
ducks out of the sheeting rain - each
grain aimed an icy dart poignantly
tipped with a hardening past -
into the chimney duct through
too-small a hole for use again,
tweaking his wish to certain flames,
some sorta luck, and, suddenly drained,
to sync with the rain
The erstwhile poet chose
to write hideous prose
Narratives of mangled fingers
of twisted elbows linger
Hardening readers’ hearts
though they could not bear to part
from every line the genius wrote
his brilliance in sickening verse cloaked
my former self lurks in the shadows
Watching others live the life I wanted
jealousy swirls into my head
hardening my heart
shadow me is angry most of the time
looking for the bad in people
perpetually finding it
proof the world is a scary place
my former self hides from the world
her talents are unshared
lying helplessly dormant and smelling
i do not evolve until I become a mother
The vagrant beggar in seeming drunken stupor
Clumsily staggers about hither and thither
No one truly wishes to lessen his pain
Turning backs on him with disdain
Now and then a half hearted benefactor
Presses into his hands unusable note in tatters
We watch from a distance, ebbing flame of conscience
To glowing heart hardening resistance by our egos indifference

Crawling on your arms it feels salacious,
a voice that’s more of a quivering touch.
This type of reaction makes me wonder.
Hardening into crystallized wonder
an itch grows for something salacious.
Blame yourself, you allocated that touch.
In awe of how it feels barely to touch,
I’m whispered into a breathless wonder.
Could it be that I too am salacious?
So salacious is the touch of wonder.
Amidst the fallen leaves
creep gray fluffy tailed chubby bubbs.
Fat and burly squirrel thieves
stealing seed and nut but not as grub.
They dig and scratch the ground
chattering to wake the town
and in the hardening earth
they bury seed for all their worth.
When their hungry and ready to eat
they've forgotten every treat.
In the spring the earth will give birth
to germinating seed from the dirt.
Yesterdays fine roots
lifted onto the loom
only when today lays beside them
the fine roots of tomorrow
does wisdom loosened
begin to weave its shape
Silent apologies linger
hardening around today
like ice at the waist
We owe our words
to a yesterday already gone
Baseless waves of blame
cast back into yesterday
rise again in a today
leaning toward tomorrow
today unresolved
returns as today
again and again
In full chiffon skirts, I sit, waiting impatiently.
Wishing I could be more kind and more willing to wait.
Life passed me by years ago; my tutor is trying.
She has a good heart, but I am hardening mine.
Why should I learn these life skills? I ask her.
Embroidery is for hope chests; I am long in the tooth.
What about the violin? She asked me. Could I teach you that?
I doubt it, I say, feeling sorry for myself. Old and alone.
By mistake, I have fallen for you
Never thought I'll be blue
Why you didn't give a clue?
Why you keep quiet so mute?
Stirring my emotions on high
Awakening me not be shy
Yet, you are a facade, deafening lie
Hardening my heart's might
Silence screams release reverberates
Everything dulls doesn't rejuvenate
Spare me, do care alleviate
Wanting more not to depreciate

Reaching for air I feel like
I am being crushed by
A thousand tons of
Wet cement and am
Going to be
Buried alive.
Swimming through
Wet gray I still
See only black.
I wish I could
Lay beneath the
Stars once more.
Constantly bumping into
Slowly hardening gray
The black grows
Dark and thick.
My lungs feel as though
They are to turn
To powder.
No small gasps could
Satisfy under such pressure
And I fear this darkness
Has no end...

Looking out from inside, the sun's rays are deceiving. Upon stepping outdoors, one sees themselves breathing.
A cool crisp air clings to everything around. Shedding trees dead red leaves dance the hardening ground.
There's a scent in the air; a musk of earth's decaying attire. It Brings to mind thoughts of wood stoves, hot cocoa, and cider.
Autumn has taken hold, its colors so beautiful and bright. But nipping right at its heels is winter's steely bite.
