Premium Member Gap Fillers
Listen to poem:
what fills the space between lines?
the gaps between words
the crack and cleft of hesitation
the break-in breaches
the silent pause of interruptions
ponder it in contemplation!...

Mantle Place Phish Funk Slam
Keep running up those Credit Card Bill's

For Cheap Thrill's

Accumulating Interest

Until your Closet is Full

Of Discarded Clutter

You can hopefully Sell 1 late night on E-Bay

To the Countless Masses

Out there phishing just like you

For Space Fillers

To place on Mantle Pieces

Where Photographs used to Play

Before the Recession Funk had time to Set...

The Time Between the Seasons For Contest
Blank space, white noise
Miles of useless matter
Hours, days, and years
Filled with futile chatter

Boxed memories
Disregarded
Neglected roots
Where you started

‘‘Twas familiar
Some moons ago
Where you once dwelled
Yet failed to grow

Just fillers of space
And thieves of time
That were required
To walk the line

Before and after
The in between
Season fracture
Remains unseen...

Premium Member No Words To Describe
Who needs words of description?! Those are mere fillers of space, They are poets' addiction When they have nothing else to say. Adjectives just make me shiver - Shudder me with creeps and chills, Should be banned from poets’ quiver - As font of frippery and frills! July 2, 2021 That is a tongue in cheek for a non-adjective contest. Treat it lightly please! Sponsor: Jack Webster

No More Blooms
You looked like you were arranging flowers in your head,
eyes appraising something I would never appreciate.

Later, I could tell by your silence that you were dumping
whole bunches of blooms - then you left,
leaving me with Baby's Breath,
Cattails, bamboo stems,
and thin things with bumps on them;
fillers, just the left overs --- no real flowers.

Now I have so much space,
and our best vase is full of crap....

Christmas Eve
Christmas is snow on the ground.
Kids going down a hill in a sled.
Sometimes falling and hitting their head.
Going inside and sitting next to a nice fire.
Or getting a nice cup of hot cocoa.
Sitting under a tree are a bunch of presents.
From stocking fillers as small as a card.
To giant boxes that could be anything you can imagine.
Thinking about what could possibly be in each box.
This is what I think about christmas....

Picture Perfect State
It starts with a smile
A bright flash blinds
Captures the moment

Look at the memory
Filter applied to maximise
Shared to friends alike

Waiting for something
To create that feeling
Approval of likeness

Vanity mirrors and fillers
Sunbed replaces sunshine
I need to look fine!

Is it a generational guise?
A picture perfect state
To be accepted today

It starts with a smile
A bright flash blinds
Captures the moment......

In the Weeds
she looked like she was arranging flowers in her head
eyes appraising something I could never appreciate

i could tell by her silence she was mad at me
about something I had no clue

 – then she left

leaving me with flimsy shoots of brown stuff
wilted cattails, bamboo stems
and thin things with bumps on them
fillers — just wispy crap

i hope she comes back
she will be in a better mood
meanwhile
i have ordered bought chocolates and roses...

The Changing Face of Rebellion
Not so many years ago
I revelled in rebellion,
Derided seniors
In sportsmobiles,
Comfortable bellies on
Wheels. Waistcoat
Fillers. Surreptitious
Pint spillers.

But now I sit and scoff
At youth and all its
Awkward agonising
Over lack of truth.

Merrily I mow the lawn
And curse because I
Can't get my wellies on.
And my wife orders me
To buy a larger pair.
And I cry 'No!' and
She groans and I ignore
Her as I turn the telly on
And I revel in my rebellion....

Evolution In Reverse
Here marks the age
Of evolution in reverse
Though finally escaping
The clutches of the church

The craze of social media
Has us on our knees
With the touch of a thumb
We’ve acquired all our needs

We need not for hunting
Exploring or chasing
We swipe and we like
For instant gratification

Needles mask our wrinkles
Pills hide our pain
Botox and fillers
Soon we’ll all look the same

Human connection
Replaced with technology
Materialistically rich
Spiritually in poverty...
