Just another day
Stopped on the way home from work
Drugstore leftovers
I just want to eat
Alone amid the couples
Save your pity please
Anticipation
Wrapped gift sitting on her lap
Did he lose his way?
Here's a phrase you don't hear anymore
“Gotta get to a phone, there's one in that drugstore”
Can't even take pics
No clicks of chicks
Only clicks when she hangs up, then shed tears galore

A guy goes into a drugstore to buy some condoms
'Do you want a bag?”cashier asks not seeing a problem
“No she's not THAT ugly!”
He answered smugly
Using his billiards experience, the last shot he caromed

Wedding dress rides bicycle.
She cracked ribs staring in my window.
Crocodile teardrops jail cell.
Peat shale lignite.
Venus squaw bean.
Police car mother death.
Late September,
Drugstore beads. sandalwood.
Friends are like drugstore
They provide:
The liquid to ease cough caused by handsomeness
The ointment to cover scars caused by scratching truth
The pills to ease irritation caused by lies
The band-aid to collect yourself up after shattered by love
Thanks friend for healing us up
I stole a garden hid it from flames,
to try and keep just one thing alive;
Collateral carnage of war games,
a single bloom of evolution won't thrive;
Detonation of everything but peace,
so careless is the nature of war;
Decimated there's nothing to seize
save P.T.S.D flooding the drugstore.
...just inside the front door of Rexall Drug
the penny-candy bottom-shelf (easy reach!)
stretched about 15' I can picture it even now!
My little fingers
tightly clench
six saved pennies,
as I hurry to the drugstore
aisle filled with
penny candy treasures,
….as far as my
eyes can see.

11:03pm
he fills the bottles slowly
no need for miracles
prescription drugs
save the soul
wash away the sins
with a glass of water
take two and call me
tomorrow
the pain of the world
written on paper
prayers answered
little purple pills
the people’s god
rattle in plastic containers
they stand in line
waiting their turn
giving their money
to drugstore jesus
I am with you in your cell
reading cheap drugstore
literature.
I am with you in your cell
though you curse me, and the spring.
Your mind, macabre.
I am with you in the cell
you chose: a toxic chrysalis
in grey.
I am with you in your cell,
without crystal, without choice.
Your mind, feeble.
Street daughter no longer,
Glimpse of reason beyond needle,
no longer. . . and yet still
I am with you in your cell.
Have you tried to buy iodine.? In your local
Chemist or drugstore at some contemorary
Time.? Its today not so obtainable as it was in my youth, when it was most plentifull, thats my clear memory in truth.'
Is it because its being poured up in the skies? To cause extreme weather.? For
that would explain much to my mind if
Industrial quantitys are being so used.? It
Would explain much..That is falling that
Is giving many the blues.?
Images cascade before us
Strolling 'long memory lane
Lithe and supple were we back in those days
Before decades of stresses and strain
I jump high, pluck a leaf from a tree
You twirl about and fall into me
Shops seem so tiny and quaint
Proprietors honest, without taint
We stop at the drugstore for a soda
Seated high atop spin-around stools
Two straws but just one chocolate phosphate
~ Puppy lovers who play by the rules
Sitting on the very old court house square
New bank facility on the corner
Massive structure, commanding, once bare
This square once small stores center
People came to shop, talk, and visit
Some would go to the corner drug store
From the fountain get a shake and sit
Now that drugstore is torn down, no more
The grand hotel on another corner
Beautiful brick simple design square
Non-operational now vacant
In limbo waiting for revival
Past the bodegas
the House of Sages
Past the children playing
in the yard
Past the drugstore
chains
Past the basketball
hoops - - which remind
me
of a class at Brooklyn College
Past the ice cream trucks
and the kosher bakery
Past the supermarkets
Hearing people
discuss old politics
I head to my home
The Lower East Side
seeing my friends, avoiding my enemies
Looking for peace - as night falls
on Losaida - my home on the Lower East Side
Hypothesis:
Hurt is
Whether you want it
Or not
Experimental Design:
In whatever a day is
And while appearing sane
I will work my way through
One bottle of drugstore scotch
One nickel bag of back alley weed
One 10-year-old’s scrip of Ritalin
Results:
Scotch hurts
And I want a dime of weed
And a grown-up’s scrip for Vicodin
Conclusion:
Hypothesis proven -
But damn
I don’t care anymore
