Dire Abbey
Can a teenage girl possibly thrive
On six-inches of masculine drive?
If you can revive
Then you will survive
As six-inches chugs better than five!...

Limerick
when the motor cut
the skiff chugs along
toward the end of the lake
where the tall peaks rise
snowcapped mountains ripple
across a backwash
an eagle
glides in a blue distance
a red and yellow float
mirrors itself
below the surface
one silvery fish slipping
under
a deeply swimming sun
no way to catch that
...

Surprise Love Endings
A decadent woman,
With eyes of bronze.
She'll break and melt you.
She'll make you into a wave particle
While you chew on the sad end of a sandwich.
You are each other's worlds at this eternal juncture.
The orbiting love gravity chugs on
Despite the brain tangles you make
In your whistling mind.
Love her.
Love the world.
Love yourself....

Quick Cuts 1 ,2, 3,
Physicians
magicians
who work wonders with a pill.
They diagnose,
prescribe the dose,
and then you get the bill.
Attorneys
journey
to the law books for a clue.
to file a brief
or sue for grief,
but it's legalese to you.
Mechanics
don't panic
when the car chugs in the bay.
They take their time
to wipe the grime.
" It won't be done today."...

River View
A police boat zips past
Followed hard by a tug.
So what, you may ask
With a sneer or a shrug.
But it’s always a thrill
When the river’s in view
And each time that I sit here,
I see something new.
The flow of the water,
The light of the sky,
The nautical traffic
That chugs or sails by
All paint me a picture
That changes with time,
Which I try to capture
In words and with rhyme....

This Appalachian Town
THIS APPALACHIAN TOWN
up on the hill
the view of the ohio
river is magnificent
in the rising sun.
below a rusted barge
is puffing against
the current
working hard
to meet its
destination.
this is the rigid life
of this small
Appalachian town:
fighting the current
or stepping in
and drowning.
everyday choices
have to be made.
the barge chugs along.

Silver Sneaker Moment
The bones are loud and heavy
they don't like exercise anymore.
The treadmill chugs along
while vertigo topples unready toes.
Nothing can push these bones along,
time has filled them with concrete,
the rubble of marathons once run.
A young woman sprinting effortlessly
beside me smirks my way
as I stumble through a flat-footed mile.
Maybe she cannot see her future yet
while mine is clearly
painted on a wall I will soon hit....
