River View

A police boat zips past Followed hard by a tug. So what, you may ask With a sneer or a shrug. But it’s always a thrill When the river’s in view And each time that I sit here, I see something new. The flow of the water, The light of the sky, The nautical traffic That chugs or sails by All paint me a picture That changes with time, Which I try to capture In words and with rhyme.

You do a terrific job of capturing visions with your magic pen, Ilene.

You get an A++ for this capture, Ilene. You took me right to the Hudson River. Still remember it fondly, though haven't been there for 10 years now. Thanks, gw

Four lovely stanzas, Ilene, from your time on the river. I love to go down to the levee here on the Ohio and watch the river traffic. My query, too, is how long it will take this very water to reach New Orleans! Much faster I think than I can make the trip!

I used to live near the River Thames and enjoyed scenes pretty much as you described on your river. Thanks for stirring that memory, Ilene. Terry

What river do you frequent? Sounds like a bustle of activity!

The East River in New York City. It’s always had barges, tug boats and police boats but a few years ago, someone finally realized it could be used to transport people and now it has wonderful ferries as well…
