Spirits of the home
Awakened by my footsteps

Takes breath away,
It holds your soul hostage,
A heart-felt magical journey
Unicorns, leprechauns, gold pots appear
Childhood memories flood you
Joyful exuberance,
You breathe and smile

summer's golden hot
auntie's made cool lemonade
front porch nostalgia

flowers all the day
in mauve orange and yellow
playing in the yard

lemon meringue pie
and sunflowers are nodding
gilded memories

some say those were the days.
But technically everyday we live is still the day;
the day your heart grew three sizes bigger,
the day you laughed as a million presents
got buried in the snow.

Cuddling in soft blankets
feeling cherished
adding Vicks
which brings me extra comfort
and childhood memories
I pick up my warm mug
filled with hot chocolate
overshadowed by the large
melted marshmallow 
floating all over the top

Clouds seem to fast forward this days sunset,
And dimness accentuated our lone street lamp glow.
By unfamiliar night noises I soon became beset,
and visions of imaginary creatures began to flow.

day another army
base is just a bit
away but even further

A Sentimental Journey Gone Wrong

a sentimental journey
childhood memories
laughed at, spit upon
rolled down the alley of make believe
the porch railing
I thought was thirty foot tall 
for almost twenty years
is barely three feet off the ground
wish I had never come back
to take a look at our old porch.
