The carefree invitation
belied the anxious creases
   in her gestures

Tense hors d'oeuvres
paraded past frozen smiles
   invisible the pale moon

Your Touch

I like the idea,
  but not when it’s real

Your love in a letter,
  to read but not feel

Lost in conception,
  affection belied

Your words I can handle
  —whose touch I deny

Listen to poem:
Cast the die, tell a lie
with stony face, just in case
you await your fate.
Perchance a circumstance
will run amok your luck
to trace perchance a triage,
to swish your wish
aligned, belied, beguiled
a happenstance prance
a dream perchance beseem

what is betrayal
belied expectation
rooted in attachment
which signals delusion

now that we know
are we free from grief
or are we yet in bondage

let’s not be harsh on ourself
it’s alright to repeat life lessons
for we know practice makes perfect

Sweet Kid

The lemon drop child
looked at the world
through sherbet fountain eyes.
Her sour cherry lips
spouting black jack words,
whilst her mind was an
aniseed twist.

Her rhubarb and custard complexion
and curly wurly
liquorice hair
Belied her treacle toffee soul
No love heart there.

Bright ,cheerful,jovial is his visage
You sense a fragile sadness
Belied by his soft smile

In quieter mood his face relaxes
Worry lines fragment his calm
Tears threaten like raindrops

The pent up dam now bursts, his bulwark gone
Broken,beaten and bereft
A sad shell of a man

Spring belied its name
used to jump out
around the side of my cottage
with yellow crocuses,
made by sun for sure,
and white snow drops
their drooping blooms
peek from leafy blankets.
this year I caught it.
its very beginning
slowed by arctic lips
blowing cold kisses
whistling up frigid winds.

Premium Member I Thank My God At Every Memory of You

I thank my God at every memory of you.
Your kindness and your genuine goodness will forever light my days.
Your frisky, slightly wicked sense of humor belied a gentle, patient heart.
In my mind, you stand there looking at me, love shining in your eyes.
You will forever live in my heart, remaining young and strong;
And I thank my God at every memory of you.

I Shall Return

In the dark belly of this creature I reside
Working my way to find the light I heard of so much
My watch glows with the productive time I belied.
Oh dear University, you have numbed my poetic touch.

Soon I will be free from these books
Aye, I shall return again PoetrySoup
To join the best "PoetrySoup" cooks
And with all our might, in poetry lane, we will troop.

Omens

OMENS
O’er wintry land bare trees now sway
On wing above, black birds traverse
Occluded skies of baleful grey
Outspreading wings imparting curse

Yet outcomes told by prescient sense
With omens of dark consequence
May be belied restoring sight
Of hope; see yon horizon bright

Premium Member Seeking Forgiveness

Seeking Forgiveness Written: by Miracle Man 9-22-2019 Lord, help us live our lives, so the lost might see. Forgiving any actions, that failed to glorify thee. When we behave or react, in a non-christian way. Keep our eyes from sleep, at the end of the day. If its because of others, that our actions have mislead. We’ve belied the gospel, and impeded its spread.

Unknown Ghost

I could see the old woman's figure,
not quite straight, comedic silver eels
of white,writhing in her hair

by her side, an aluminium pot,
plastic-wrapped, an errand perhaps
or totem for a friend?

a glimpse of her gentle jaw and
deep-tanned face, belied her peasant
strength, her country grace,

I opened up, and quickly sped ahead,
and when I reached her funeral pyre,
I realized she was dead

Muted Love

I recanted ever knowing Love's quotient,

Over me had Cupid never distilled Love's potion,

My staid lips never bantered Love's discourse,

While stoic mindset made terms of endearment no recourse.

My posture belied that of a court jester,

And sensory images could not my emotions' sequester.

Desire, passion's impulse, became a muted feeling;

And Hope, residing in Despair's harbor, offered little healing.

The mask we wear, belied by hidden fears,
self-deception, feeling not emotion,
thereby prolonging torture that pain spears.
Plunging headlong into each sensation,
nonchalant eye grants us liberation.
Unfettered presence, thus free and unbound,
transmutes dark dungeons into holy ground,
ecstatic with bliss, moment to moment,
sensing within heart, loving divine sound,
form ignited, countenance radiant.

Premium Member Revenge - To What End

Nonchalant eye curt, births feeling of hurt,
belied expectation the causation
of hearts contraction, as ego thoughts spurt.
We did choose to nurture expectation;
now unable to deal with rejection,
we self-impose suffering day and night.
Even revenge will not set matters right,
for as said, if we take an eye for eye,
the entire world will be, soon without sight.
As clear truth dawns, our heart in relief, sighs.
