Nearing the Finish Line

As the might-have-beens get smaller
And the what-the-hecks get taller
Life gets sweeter.
What a beater,
Death looms, but ya wanna stall'er

Regret

Is a dish best served
as cold leftovers
from a meal
of might
have beens
from back before
you had stormed out
and left me here
dining all
alone

A Treatise on Newspapers

Newspapers can be logs for the fire
        or non-functional rolling pins

    Obsolete as white-stockinged town criers
        along with typewriters ~ has-beens

In the Darkest Souls

i see reflections of myself
all the could have beens
pile around me
grudging my steps
better never an option
how to give love you have never felt
so i feign my humanity
with a crooked smile
and eyes that lock
me in my emptiness

Replaying and Realizing

songs and memories play in my head,
while i think of the could of beens and what will never bes
and with great sorrow i realize they are one in the same
i didnt want to believe it...but
i had to face the truth
I was never meant to be with u

A Lightness of Hunger

is
what
what is...
what is what
is what is now...now...
all the whens and the might have beens...
a captivating time space wonderland called...the now...
a stability without hunger to consume and fill all from an emptiness void

Broke Dreaming

The sadness of broken dreams, the might have beens, and the sometimes, gladness, a life lived in between, goodness n badness.. it would seem... can up n downs bring madness, when too much hurt has been? Don re: Debbie Duncan "Missing Pieces"

Mistakes of the Heart

Looking back,
my mistakes,
if such they were,
were of omission
rather than commission.
My caution
and lack of nerve
leaving me
with naught but
a basket full of
might have beens.

Which is why
I must now,
seize this day
with you.

Memories

Memories
Cloud my mind
Some bitter,
Some sweet.
Scenes from yesterday
Again, I meet.

Why, oh why,
Won’t they go away?
Regrets won’t change
Anything today.

“If onlys”
Are useless,
And “might have beens” too.
Help me
Not to forget
O Lord, I still have you!

Fate

Can anyone relate, to pain once it begins? No way to escape fate, the broken record never ends; Accept now what is, not longing for should have beens’, What was, is not, what is, what a tragic end; There never was a what was, its an imagined should have been

Young Innocence

Sweet dreams, soft and transparent,
Floated like feathers in the sky.
And through them could be seen all that ever was.
Or ever could be.

Naivete', shimmering and shining
With rainbow light.

Unaware of the deadends
And the could have beens
And the dark and frightening
Nights of coming life

Awaken Screaming

     confusion slips into our beds
games the minds of gentle heads

     twists familiars to never-beens
        personas dark mask every scene

far away from hearth and home
on echoes' endless shouts I roam

in vain retrieve my former life
confusion wakes ~ a butcher knife

Pompeii

Sometimes I feel like such a jerk
To hear friends talk of long lost work
Few leave their homes
All had good jobs
From nine to five
Just working slobs
When all is really said and done
Where was real life?
Where was the fun?
So as the years now just roll by
And no one really cares a bit
To hear these has beens spew their wit.

Interlude

Night ..full with strange sounds
   where nervousness abounds

Night..fills the mind with scenes
   of imagined what-might-have-beens

Night..fills the empty heart
    loneliness ..lives apart

Night..when the clock ticks slow
   restlessness ebbs to ,then fro

Night..a time to sleep and pray
for help to face another day

With You Around

The summer sky fades to black, like a lost love thats never coming back.
It's all the same when your alone.
Loneliness finds it's way to the bone.
I think of old friends and the good times we spent.
Now it's how have you beens that don't mean a cent.
My unsung dreams have disappeared, like whispers in the breeze.
But with you around my pain is at ease.

In a Moment

Closed open
Open.closed
Eyes at rest
Soft Wind blows
Warm sun glare beens
It's bright it seems
I must open. My eyes
I won't relive these memories
There is no abracadabra time
To bring this all home
I must stay well grounded
I'm required to set the tone
Amindful minute can pass in a blink
Just a reminder
Enjoy life it moves quicker than you think

Tunnel of Love

The narrow tunnel, darkened by shadows of denial;
my vessel of hope, adrift on possibilities.
A regretful mist hangs heavy in this melancholy place.
The haunting echo's of could-have-beens stalking close behind,
as I search for a spark of light at every turn.
Unable to turn around this voyage of time,
I will accept the fait that awaits me at the end.

I wonder..........
Will you be there?......

Did We Start It With a Kiss

Did We Start it With a Kiss?

Did we start it with a kiss?
All our years of endless bliss,
We should have been young teens,
Now we are the could have beens....
Did we start it with a kiss?
Years roll by, we're forever like this,
Light's still on, love has endured,
To the gossips we are inured....
Did we start it with a kiss?
Last romance, our timeless bliss...
Yes, we started with a kiss.....

The Great Awakening

I stand here
In this dream like state
Where nothing really matters
The love, the hate
Feelings in general
Everything that exists
It's as if everything
Is only an as if
Could have beens
And might have beens
The haves and have nots
The right's of men
And women, all of their
Their strives
For justice and equality
It all just dies
Then, as is expected
To a realization I come
This is life as it was
Meant to be done

Untaken Opportunities

May the narrative of your life
be one likened to the torrents
    of a creek surging eagerly
   against the rocks and boulders,
  bubbling, gurgling, splashing
 down the slopes - -
so gleefully!

May it not be a woeful account
     of many what-might-have-beens
    shrouded in sorry, sordid tales
   of last-minute, scared hesitations,
  of wasted, untaken opportunities
 now remembered - -
so ruefully.

The Very End Yet Remains

one day here
one day will b gone
just another person
this body and soul torn

just a faded memory
one not really known
heart of what heavens
sins haunt and scorn

seen and felt
the good and bad
my sorrow justs melts
the cud beens, the had

been used, abused
torchered and revenged
manifested and fused
left the sins that fumes

whats done is done
whats said is said
the result of this
will become after deathen

Copla Diecisiete Corollary This Bad Guy World

COPLA DIECISIETE (Corollary) : This Bad Guy World

Either account you must for self
At Death’s door or everybody
Gets a clean sheet

In either case it’s not your self
Which will inhabit your body:
None turn back neat

Pardons for wrongs encourage sins
Who gave whom the right to condone:
Not in His name

Comfort in numbers makes has-beens
Face your own guilt Death will spare none:
Stand by your shame
