The Sweet Land

Sweat free

But clad in sweater

Alps eyes,tearing water

An air conditioned soil like a freezer

Sweet, the land of chocolate, Switzer!

Air Conditioned

drenched in memories of sweat
cooling the fear of attack and harm
summer is a bliss of warmth

a dream come to erase the pour
of tears to dew the morning grass
as for ever bare foot the sensation to be alive.

Not even air-conditioned just fans Mon
When eye got outside it was hot Mon
Eye placed my shades my sunglasses on mon
Now im cool mon

An Aging Marvel

     Of technology’s many gifts
        many receive remarkably short shrift

Yet without one of its aging marvels
        the entire civilized world unravels

So, I’d like all those short shrifters
just one sweltering summer to envision
            their homes ~ un-air-conditioned

Evolution-Revolution

sun,
the cycle is complete.
the eager, creative young man is gone.
say hello to the conformist
whose victory is the other one's defeat.

sun,
his mind is gone.
cubed by the hemming concrete walls,
boxed by air-conditioned cubby-holes
he does not know why he runs.

sun,
does this happen to everyone?

Iced Tea

The heat is so oppressive, I’m tempted to agree Hell couldn’t be any hotter indeed, so I shall flee To the arctic regions of my air-conditioned home Becoming a sad recluse like a disconcerted gnome, Thank goodness, I am a southerner of true gentility Knowing the intrinsic value of homemade iced tea!

A Triple Treat

I met my son for lunch today,
An unexpected treat.
We both had time (quite rare for him)
So it made sense to meet.

We talked of this and that, a time
To simply socialize,
While munching on our lunches
And devouring our fries.

An air-conditioned haven
With my son was every way
A triple treat – a break from heat
And lunch; (he got to pay!)

A Question of Definition

a question of definition

camping?
luxuries au wilderness
juxtaposition
air conditioned lassitude
with untouched raw nature
three piece baths
next to outhouses
wheels rolling through trees
electric lights break
the pristine dark
camp-fire-crackle ambiance
food microwaved
hot running water, lakeside
even the chipmunks shun
mere bread
for more sumptuous fare.

Politricks

Four in one, nine baptised,
I hear you say legalised fraudlence,
Promises air-conditioned highways and streets,
Salaries and wages without working,
An easy life made sweet and comfortable.

Now, all can join the bandwagon of rigging,
Of Moonslide Marsslide victories,
With babies and peoples ritually sacrificed,
Received with glee by their lord,
The god of politricks.

Politricks

Four in one, nine baptized,
I hear you say legalized fraudulence.
Promises air-conditioned highways and streets;
Salaries and wages without workings,
An easy life made sweet and comfortable.

Now, all can join the bandwagon of rigging,
Of Moonslide and Marsslide victories,
With babies and peoples ritually sacrificed.
Received with glee by their lord,
The god of Politricks.

To Build a Special Roof For You

(My late father was a construction worker.Remember him on Father's Day.)
The construction workers with
Sweating foreheads
Dry throats
Burning skins
Blinding eyes
Struggle to build
An air-conditioned roof
Under the sun
For you and especially for you
While themselves
Working at a place
Without a fan or an air conditioner
But under a burning sun
Hanging from a roof called the sky

Summer Must End

Sometimes the summertime is just not a friend. Oh, you wish autumn would now begin. Oh, for relief now and then a cold front please send snow somehow. END oh, please now hot summertime’s trend even if we must pretend locked tight in an air-conditioned den. Sometimes the summertime is just not a friend. 7/14/2020 Andaree - 11 Lines Poetry Contest Sponsored by: Joseph May

Sybarites

Ideal citizens, you.
Dreamed-of private individuals,
With villas and servants.
Feasts, travels, lavish meals,
And drugs at the disposal of life.
Bravery is tiring,
Easier is indulgence,
Though it does not fill the belly.
With luxury you melt in saunas,
With androgyne butterflies.
And then, in the mighty air-conditioned
halls of Sodom,
you offer your seed
to Sterfos,
the tunnelled demigod.

A Moons View

The moon hangs bright in the sky,
looking down, on you and I.
She has watched mans progress, through eons of time,
right from the start, seeing him crawl, out of the slime.
Evolving from living in caves, and throwing stones,
to air conditioned apartments, and cellular phones.
Our footprints, in her dust she has seen,
who knows what this millennium will bring.
For now we are aiming at the stars,
first stop Mars.

Ode To Brugmansia In the Heat of Summer 2011

A glimpse out the window morphs into a gaze
Brugmansia, your mystical delicate beauty clears
Air conditioned stupor. There you sway
Gracefully grasping toward thirst-quenched solidity.
Firmly rooted one strand beyond limp susceptibility
Leaves randomly ragged from young rodents' teething
Swelteringly bearing the dark side of nature
Fresh blossoms emanate dignity's essence
Despite gloomy doomsday predictions
Angel trumpeting goodness and peace.

Advice From Uncle Mike

The current wet bulb globe temperature
Is 93.5
A reading where the experts say
It’s hard just to survive
Their warnings start at 82
And end at 88
If you’re outside at 93
It probably is too late
Avoid outside activities
Don’t work out in the sun
And if you’ve any brains at all
Don’t stay out there for fun
Find someplace air conditioned
While we’re saddled with this spike
Be safe, stay in, stay cool
That’s advice from Uncle Mike

Late Afternoon Musing

Lying here safe from
the
   hear in my air conditioned
room
  Mind drifts to olden
times
  When song filled the air
    And a goblet of wine
was enough
   Passing by known and
unknown forests and streams
  Our light has not dimmed
Since the days when sailing ships
left for distant
shores
  Came back loaded with
gold and spices
Imagination has its own rewards
  We needn't worry
that our questions
  will be without answers

For the Brave Men and Women Who Fight For Us Everyday

There are brave men and women somewhere tonight
standing in alert and ready to fight.
I send a simple prayer
as they bravely march on through
defending the honor of the Red, White and Blue.
No air conditioned condo's and fine dining in their ranks.
They march on foot, or cargo trucks, in flight or Army tanks.
For all of us you risk your life, and your world is upside down.
I believe in heaven there's a jewel in your crown.

Politricks

It was
four in one
nine baptised i hear

You say
this is indeed
legalised fraudlence

In it
air-conditioned
highways,streets promised

as are
salaries and wages
without legitmate working

and easy
life made sweet
and very comfortable

all can
now join the
bandwagon of rigging

of shows,
adulating in Moonslide
and Marsslide victories.

Alas with
babies and peoples
ritually gleefully sacrificed

with joy
received by their
lord, god of poltricks.
