In the shower, in the shower
It all hits me with such power
While shampooing my long hair
As I soap up body....fair? ;)
There where laptop's not in sight
Words explode like dynamite!!!
There where my back needs a rub
When I don't dare leave the tub
There in my soapy sudsy best
Words assail me without rest
When I need my legs to shave
Words assault me, strong and brave
While my hands glide here and there
Poetic soul itself will bare
Poems of the "bardy" type
Come to mind with lots of hype
Once I'm done and towel dry
Can't write a thing, though hard I try!
Now I have this silly rhyme
I must increase my shower time
Or have someone just sitting there
Who has some time for me to spare
Someone who's fast on the keys
If you're the one, then tell me please
You're hired here, right on the spot
You'll be my scribe, "Forget Me Not."

PART I
Our caravan from afar off, finally, noisily pulled into the parking lot,
The crunching gravel ‘neath the tires, heralded our arrival.
We all had been excitedly chatting, about our destination, our work, our aid.
We hurriedly bounded out of our transport, tired, yet excited, exhilarated.
We immediately began the tasks at hand; unpacking, organizing, setting up.
We were readying for the work, when you bounded into our midst.
Your eyes sparkled, your smile was infectious, although, marred
by the need for dental work, which matched the need for a shampooing,
Of your scraggly blond hair, and more patching of your frayed jeans,
Although, they probably could use no more;
Just like your scuffed cardboard lined, oversized shoes,
you were wearing/sliding along, could be repaired no more.
And not surprising your faded shirt was missing most of its buttons
which apparently were long gone. But you were such a resilient angel
You could not dare care.
You merely brightened our day, hanging around,
following us around, eagerly all around us, as you stole our hearts.
Then as suddenly as you appeared, you bounded out the door
and disappeared into the evening night . . .
got into the shower
as he’d done a million
times before &
down below in the bottom
o’er where the tub meets
the floor,
there was a
black bug making its
way to crawl up the man’s
leg,
and for a minute
(before squashing it) he
hesitated, rather than
stomp him away---
he wondered just how
long that bug’d been
roaming round the tub,
he wondered how much
longer that bug thought
he had to go,
he deliberated that bug’s
usefulness in the “greater
scheme of things,”
while at the same time
excogitating his own
complete lack of meaning &
so rather than crush
out that bug’s last breath
of life,
he made the effort to avoid
him
whilst scrubbing &
shampooing that night.
Halfway through shampooing the dog, it came....
A new idea for a poem.
I tried to scribble it on to the floor with a soapy finger
No one else to tell, except the dog...
He just looked bewildered, and shook his body violently
Splashing water everywhere, erasing my verse....
Quinching that wonderful lightbulb moment.
It was as if it had vanished into thin air
Gone forever.......never to be retrived.....
I asked my dog if he remembered any of what I had said
He just shook himself again, and I let him free...
My retriever ran off, like the words of my poem....
Free at last...free at last....
Retrieving a poem...or a wet retriever....isn't easy....
Remember the day that you brought me home to stay.
Every time you set in me, I heard you stop and say.
Chair you are so soft and I rest easy within you.
Lazily you reclined and I caressed, so gently too.
I know that you care for me as deeply as you show.
Neatly you kept me, shampooing me, head to toe.
I have no idea what ever happened to the love you had.
Now I set waiting, in the corner, did I do something bad?
Granted I have become an old chair maybe you became sad.
Carefully you replaced me with a bigger and brighter chair.
Hearing you say that he was on sale, a bargain so fair.
Again, you scrub him and me, so I know you still care.
I know my days are limited, because of the size of this room.
Recliners come and go. That is our dilemma and perilous doom.
